I can't Win

Man sorry, hope things work out.
About all our engineers are going over to China to help start up a new plant.

MIKE T, I am in Canton Michigan

Brian, thanks for the heads up. I tried GM for the third time now.
I will try Honda. Thanks for the linky and PM's

Bambo--its amazing how quickly things changed from when i was an undergrad. I was thinking of getting my MBA, but who knows what the market is going to do.

Thanks to you all for the support. I will keep ya' updated as to progress or lack there of.

So far it looks like I am thinking of moving.

First of all, get the "failure" BS out of your head. Engineering has always been a cyclical industry that you can do nothing about. I left Detroit over thirty years ago in a previous downcycle and have never regretted it. The days of doing thirty years with one company are pretty well over and boring to boot.

Second, what kind of engineering do you want to do? It still surprises me how many different "specialties" there are that I had never heard of before. I started designing auto machinery in Detroit and do spacecraft reliability engineering in LA now. If you can figure out how to live here, aerospace in CA cannot find enough engineers of all types and it will need more soon. There are engineering hot spots all over the country including Texas (re: TI or Raytheon). Use the WEB to look at big company sites and the job listings they have there for the variety and vocabulary they use. Everybody wants someone with twenty years experience in a field that two years old but they will accept someone who can spell engineer and maintain a constant body heat.
Looking for a job is one of my least favorite things to do, having a new one is one of my favorites. Ying and Yang. Life goes on.
Good luck and don't give up.

JSR--You are absolutely correct. I guess I should send my resume to companys even though I don't have that much experience. I am willing to go anywhere, I think the experience is what has been killing me. And your right, looking for a job sucks. having a new one is great. I haven't given up, as I am still searching. Good things will come. Just heard Toyota of canada is hiring.

My wife is from Sterling Heights and my old roommate is from Port Huron.

No kidding. Small world, because my Grandma lives in Naples.

There are a lot of people with Florida and Michigan connections. About half of my family live in Florida and the other half live in Michigan. I only feel sorry for the Michigan half.

Wow, going from an engineer to a lawyer, what a jump. I know one guy who has done it and it now a well off patent attorney because he really understood both sides of the world. Myself, I am an engineer, and could not imagine being a lawyer, to much paper work and not enough physical creativity, but then again, we need people of all kinds to keep this world going. Keep you head up and keep moving on, things will get better, everyone ends up in those situations sometimes. You know everyone here at AG world is there for you.

And then it gets really weird where Gary grew up a couple of miles from me in Michigan and now both of my brothers live in Southern Florida

Just reading one of the AOL news blurb thingys about how Engineering is one of the top ten in demand jobs right now and they had a comment from Porsche in Germany that they are very concerned on the lack of new hires.
Auf Weidersein

You never did say what kind of engineering you want to do?

More jobs in Houston TX for engineers than any where in USA. If you want to work for big money come to Houston as fast as possible. Bring your degree with you. You will never find in the Michigan they have no business. You are looking in the wrong area.
