I FINALLY pulled the trigger

Nice Bobby!
Does this machine also come with a long handle-wand for doing home carpeting? If so, or if one can be gotten that's a nice plus for keeping the home carpeting clean, and will pay for itself over time.

Seems lots of Carpet Cleaning Companies want to be in-out ASAP, and as a result this often means a poorly done cleaning job.

I've had the Bissel Pro Heat, and now have the Hoover. Problem with Bissel, I found an impossibility of acquiring parts from them. Had a plastic cogged drive pulley on the pump strip out, and could only get the part (metal pulley on the replacement) with the pump also from ebay for $30/ Was better than chucking the unit in the trash, Bissel wanted me to send the entire unit to El Paso, 90 miles away and I'm sure they would've "cleaned me" but good!

The Hoover I now have seems better, seems parts can be gotten easier, but it does not pre-heat the solution, and it empties quite quickly for home carpet use. That becomes an inconvenient PITA after awhile.

Mike, great tips! :dblthumb2:
Might I ask where you sourced a clear extraction wand for your Mytee?

To be honest I'm not sure where the two clear wands I have came from but I can try to find out.

For the life of me, I don't understand why clear wands are not available.

There's simply no way of knowing when you've extracted both all the dirt, (it's usually brown in color), and any upholstery cleaner, (it looks foamy) if you cannot see it.

Maybe this is someone's chance to invent their own line of products.

The only possible downside of a clear plastic extraction wand is that plastic is not as strong as stainless steel and the plastic COULD break.

If it breaks... you buy another one. Seriously... the inability to not see when the water runs clear when doing extraction is life flying blind, or in this case cleaning blind.

If you can't see when the the extraction goes clear you have two optioins...

1. Make multiple multiple passes to make sure you've extracted enough.

2. Leave dirt and cleaning solution behind.

Neither are good options.

For the life of me, I don't understand why clear wands are not available.

I had asked Mike this question before, and I had looked into it to see if I could find out a little more. IIRC it looked like one of the ones Mike uses comes from a Durrmaid extractor, which Autogeek used to carry. But in searching around a little at places that specialize in extractors, it appears that the clear wands are usually provided with extractors that are unheated, and that extractors that have optional heat seem to have the metal wand included as part of the heat option.

The conclusion that I draw from that is that the extractor manufacturers feel that the clear wands are not suitable for heated extraction fluid. Since it seems more common for people in the carpet cleaning business to use chemicals in their extractor, that may be the source of the concern (heated chemicals and the clear wand) as opposed to us car guys who are working on smaller areas and tend to spray the chemicals on the carpet and just use water in the extractor.

That's just my speculation, it would be nice to have an "official" answer, but I agree with Mike that it's awful hard to judge your progress if you can't see what you're extracting out.

I knew I've been asked this question before... just didn't remember who... thanks for chiming in.

And you did answer me. Is it possible the carpet/upholstery guys aren't as "detail" oriented as we are, and they just make one pass (or a certain number of passes) and presume it's clean, so they don't care that they can't see what's coming up?

I just sent an email to one of the mfrs. asking the question.

Thank you one and all for all the input and contributions!! :dblthumb2:

Go grab some prochem fiber rinse, and prochem ultrapac traffic clean. I have also heard some good stuff about matrix too.

Just to throw in my two cents worth of advice.

No matter how pooped you are at the end of the day clean the extractor before you put it away. I generally clean the wand first by putting it in a bucket of clean warm water and let it pull the water through the wand and hose until it looks clean when you dump the tank.
Since it is clean water you have also just cleaned the tank too.
I put a half a tank load in the supply side to wash out any soap residue too.
Then twice a year I run a bottle of CLR though the entire system. I put it full strength in the supply side and let it sit for 15 minutes, with the heater off. Then without letting it get hot I let it pump into the wand and drain into a bucket. Then suck it all back up and pour it out of the "dirty water" tank and pour it back into the bottle, ready to use again next time.
After using CLR don't forget to run a tank of water in and out to flush all the CLR out of the system.

Your Mytee will last forever.
