First is was MF towel, then spray on waxes, not to mention all the paste waxes, sealants, polishes and well you know the rest. I kinda hate when I have to get stuff that I really don't want to buy but know I need to or really should buy. This is the other side of this addiction.

What do you guys think are the best:

1) Wheel cleaners
2) Tire cleaners
3) APCs (I know we already went through this one)
4) Metal polishes
5) Brushes (those things are expensive or is it that I just don't want to spend money on them LOL)
6) All those other misc. items that makes a detail a detail.

I guess I gotta buy em'

Get Megs APC and use it for apc wheel and tire cleaner. Grab the mothers brush set and a Daytona or Ez detail brush. The ez detail brush is about 5 dollars cheaper than the Daytona and personally like the color better lol. The mothers brush set is great bang for the buck. You get the wheel well brush tire brush and wheel brush for 15 bucks. And the Megs apc works very well for tires and wheels in my experience.

As jvs noted, you can use an APC for cleaning tires. The Meg's APC's are very cost-effective, you can also use something like Optimum Power Clean, they also recommend that for wheels (so that's like a 3-for-1 deal, APC/tires/wheels).

I don't know what your metal polish application is, but depending, you can probably get away with a paint compound like M105 if you are just doing tailpipes and don't want to buy a dedicated metal polish. Also if you have something solventy like Poorboy's Pro Polish, that works well on metal.

Addressing #5,

When it comes to brushes, IMO, it's worth spending $$ for quality units. In my book a tool that could transform a job from annoyance to fun is worth its weight in gold.

Take the Wheel Woolies for example; well made, easy to use, easy to clean up afterward & store away. $49.99 might sounds expensive, but if you look at it from a long-term standpoint, it's a bargain.

I don't know about others, but I like to clean my wheels weekly. The initial year roughly translates to a buck per tool usage, or $.25 per wheel.

So, it's a quarter to go from "this sucks" to "whistle while you work".

:xyxthumbs:

Are they some sort of synthetic or microfiber now? I have a couple from when CMA first came out with them, and when I got them I remember thinking they were going to last about 2 cars and I put them somewhere and never used them...I gotta find them. I guess my point is I think originally they were really wool, and usually wool stuff like that isn't very durable, like the Carrand black wool wheel spoke brush.

I just know your right about that. I've been looking at those Daytona brushes. 29 bucks for just one, ouch. And if I get the Jr. to go with it, ouch, ouch oooch. I'm trying to gather the nerves. Uh-Boy.

OP, the 1st 3 items on your list can be haandled by Optimum Power Clean aka Alien Kleen here on AG, diluted to 3:1 will handle most of your tasks!

I wrestled with the same thing a while back. I eventually pulled the trigger and am glad I did!:xyxthumbs: They are worth every penny in my opinion.

Hey Setec Astronomy, how ya doing.

The ones I have are synthetic (polypropylene), purchased since Dec. I guess they've made a few improvements? Of all the brushes I've spent money on, no contest, the Woolies rank at top. Splatter is minimal, almost non-existence really, compared to the Daytona, and no issues with quality after 20+ washes.

I think most people who've pulled the trigger on them say the same thing. I waited for a while because of the price too, but they really are a versatile tool. I waited till there was a 10, 15 or 20% (can't remember which %) sale to soften the initial sticker shock.

But a great bargain for other imperative brushes are the Mothers wheel & tire brushes: Mothers Tire, Wheel & Well Brush Kit. Their small ones are good for misc work too: Mothers Detail Brush Set cleans crevices and creases inside your car. Mother Detail Brush Set includes 2 small brushes.

While my mind is on the brand, their chrome polish is really good for the price point. CG makes a really good metal polish as well.

Well to be honest iI think that if you get Megs Apc+ that covers, interior cleaner/doors, carpets, dash etc and wheels, tires, and even engine since it does have degreaser properties, i have not trued optimum but with megs apc + theres 0 chance you will use les than a 1:4 dilution. For brushes if you get the wheel woolies 3 pack small med large thats all you will need.

Once I buy the first one, I'll get hooked on brushes. LOL

Very wise move.

If I'm lucky AG will have brushes on BOGO. Hint hint AG.

You can knock out the first 3 with Meg's APC+, at least 2 and 3. For maintenance wheel cleaning CG Diablo Gel because it's concentrated, smells good and creates shaving cream foam, for powerful cleaning I'd suggest something like Sonax Full Effect or other similar de-ironing wheel cleaners, maybe even IronX.

No real experience to speak of with metal polishes, sorry.

5.) I like the interior detail brush that AG sells on the site, but it's out of stock and there are plenty of other popular distributors that stock the same kind of brush. The Raceglaze Detail Brush set has caught my eye, 5 different brushes at $30 but it's not on AG.

As for wheels, been really happy with the Mother's wheel brush and I've been planning on purchasing a set of Wheel Woolies soon.

6.) Q-tips, foam brushes, some type of blower/dyer/compressed air for nooks & crannies, I just use a short (1") bristled paint brush for tire dressing

Dude, you gotta' do the Mothers 3-pack as the cheapie of the bunch. Daytona brushes are nice and all, but STAND THE FRICK BACK when you're using them. Wheel Woolies I don't know how I lived so long without!!!!! What they DO need is some sort of 'grippy' on the handle. I'm going to buy some grip strips and twist them around the handles to see how that'll work. (Either that or spray them with truck bed liner.) :dunno: (fwiw it's possible to take a heat gun to the handle to get a bit of 'bend' from it.) ;)

As far as Megs APC+.... OMG even my wife uses it all the time now! :dblthumb2:

So, have we spent another $100 of your money yet?

I hear ya' brother, believe me I do. But trust me here, SERIOUSLY I mean you really REALLY need to trust me.

The Daytona's are cool and all, and I'm glad I have one. But... you need to STAND THE FRICK BACK when you're pulling them outta' a wheel or wheel well. OMG do they sling stuff everywhere! Makes you want to wear a rain poncho. I have gotten to where I wear an apron quite a bit to keep stuff from getting all over my clothes, and GOOD THING when you're dealing with the Daytona brushes.

I too put off the 'woolies' at $49.99, that was up until I had a killer 25% off (competitors coupon). ;) Once they showed up my biggest mistake is I did not buy TWO SETS!!!
I'll be getting more, you can count on it. (When I get another 25% off coupon!)

My wife mad the same noises as you; gasp, gasp, wheeze, cough, and several other select face contortions along with a few choice words.
THEN.... she saw them in action. Not another word! Im the MAN

I'm gonna close my eyes and bite the bullet and buy the Wheel Woolies. I have a few things in my cart and this will be my biggest AG order yet. My wife must never find out about this. I'm talking bout 30 years later hiding. This will be a top secret covert order. I know nobody will believe me when I say this (I don't believe me either) but this will be my last order. Yeah right.
