I just learned a valuable lesson

So... It was my birthday this week, and in anticipation of doing some basic detailing (prior to discovering these very impressive forums), I did a small amount of research on DA polishers, and had my wife buy me a Shone Mate ERO600, as it was within our conservative present budget, and I could only find positive reviews.

It arrived today:

Having been excited as hell over being able to detail my own cars, and having spent big on all the products and bits and pieces is need, also given that it took over a week to arrive, and my 2 weeks of leave finishes on Tuesday, it's fair to say that I'm more than a little disappointed and frustrated... (Argh!!!!!!!!)

Next time I'll research further, and go with a proven product. It may be a freak occurrence, but I can't help thinking that the quality control of the name brand machines would have caught this...

Ah well... It gives me time to get the weekend toy running again, so I can paint the garage floors... Have to keep my hands busy...

My first thought was wow, what a piece of junk. Then, ah just change the socket. If the socket is garbage what about the rest of it? I would be so mad I had 4 full days left to play with my new toy just to find out I was SOL.

Can you return it and buy a quality one on autogeek? They have 25% off right now. If they give you a hard time just call the credit card company assuming you used one. A lot of cards offer warranties on all products regardless of the store policy. This saved me a few times.

I could, but the freight costs are a killer (Australia).

The supplier has already sent a replacement: we'll see how it goes... At the end of the day, I figured I'd start at the bottom of the ladder and see where my "polisher envy" takes me: I have every intention of sticking with my new obsession!!

And from a practical standpoint, I'm really better off prepping my workshop space before spending all my time feeding my OCD tendencies...

Freight isn't actually that bad when shipping via USPS (US Postal Service). Not sure if AG has the option to sell via USPS but another company i buy from offers it.
I once shipped a $500 value item to Philippines weighting at 85lb for $86.25. Shipping Fedex would have been 3 times of that!

I'd probably swap that plug out in a second and get it working but i understand the principle thing. Plus, if they are replacing it you most likely need to return it exactly as is. Sorry that it happened to you and believe me, i can absolutely understand your frustration.

With this Shine Mate polisher having:
-A 600W motor;
-Cranking out: 2800-6800 OPM;
-A 9mm Orbit Diameter;
-A 5" backing plate...

•Once you get the plug fixed...
-This seems to be (at least on paper):
a pretty good DA polisher.

So... The replacement unit is on the way: the supplier was very apologetic, and had it posted within an hour of me calling/emailing pics.

Being all revved up to to attempt an intensive detail on my wife's car, I was itching to actually achieve something over the weekend, so I hit the shed: I'd already cleared and swept it a few days ago while waiting for the rest of my detailing bits and pieces to arrive:

The car pictured is my pride and joy, but not running due to an 'incident' caused by my own impatience and stupidity a few weeks ago:

so with a fresh battery installed I got it out of the garage, and spent 5 1/2 hits yesterday rolling around on an old office chair with a pressure washer (my neck and shoulders are now anew lesson in agony!), prepping the floors for painting. I'm aaaaalmoooost done: about 20sq feet left to go this morning, then I'll hit it with the first coat of workshop paint tomorrow. I'm hoping to be done by Tuesday, because it's back to work wed-fri, then the lighting will hopefully be installed next weekend!

I have at least achieved something in my 2 week break...

After its all done, then I'll start detailing... Can't wait!!!

So the new unit arrived, but I'm back at work...

I'll finish the man cave floor off this weekend, then have a 4 day stretch of days off next week: I'll attempt my first proper detail then...
