So I know I sound crazy by saying this but I'm looking for a recommendation for just a decent foam gun. I work in a chemical plant and so does my wife so we just want something that we can foam down our vehicles quickly once a week and give it a good rinse, fully knowing the next day or so its going to get covered with everything we can think of from cooling water drift to paint overspray etc. We dont need showroom quality just a simple quick wash down.

Again I know I sound crazy but just interested in y'all thoughts.

:props:

Just find the cheapest one you can on eBay. There's really not much of a huge difference in performance on any of them. I used parked close to a cooling tower at a pilot plant before. That's some nasty stuff to get on your paint

Foam by itself does very little other than look cool, IMO. A pressure rinse and foam may be a decent combo if you aren't looking to spend much time on it.

Is the autogeek branded foam gun any better (as stated in their description) than any of the others, specifically the one with the plastic black dial on top to adjust the foam? I want to try one but financially right now can't afford to gamble with $70 for one, but could handle the others with the black dial at half the price if not much difference. If the autogeek is that much better, I would bite the bullet and get it rather than wasting the money on the other if they are not good?

This is the one I use, and the only time it doesn't work is if it breaks and the only time it breaks is if I drop it.

There's no plastic black dial on the top to adjust the foam on the above model so you must be referencing something else?

The model above allows you to adjust the foam via a sliding brass tube with graduated siphon holes from tiny to small that you can select.

One thing I know.... I've never met anyone that chooses or wants LESS FOAM

:)

Here's my INCREDIBLEY DETAILED write-up for the above foam gun that not only shows you exactly how the foam gun works but also how to use it.

How to use a foam gun by Mike Phillips

I always thought the store page had a link to this article? Seems like a natural fit?

One thing for sure, you won't find this type of "educational" how-to article on Amazon or anywhere for that matter that as a part of good customer service shows the customer how to use the thing they just spent their hard earned money on...

Where is that Amazon Car Detailing Discussion Forum with helpful accurate information?

Here's an example of just a FEW pictures I took to edumucate people on how these things work....

The Foam Metering Stem
This component slides from one side to the other and allows you to select the volume of foam you want to spray. The small tip on the end simply serves as a handle to help you to grip the stem to either push or pull it into position.

Detent holes
Across the top of the Foam Metering Stem are a series of holes that are used to lock the stem into the desired position. Inside the top of the Foam Mixing Head is a spring loaded brass check ball that fits into the top portion of the chamfered holes. The spring load creates tension to hold the stem securely in place.

How to adjust foam level
To adjust the foam level from low to high simply turn the Foam Metering Stem 1/4 turn as shown in the picture below and now you can slide the stem from one side to the other side. After you have selected the volume of foam you want to use turn the Foam Metering Stem so the Detent Holes are facing up. Then you can slide the stem either in or out till you feel the check ball lock into a detent hole.

In the picture below I have turned the Foam Metering Stem upside down in order to take the next picture to show you the graduated siphon holes that meter the amount of soap solution drawn through the Foam Mixing Head.

Graduated siphon holes
With the Foam Metering Stem turned upside down you can see a series of holes that range from very tiny on one end to very larger on the other end.

I have that black dial foam gun you mention and i wish my foam gun came in bigger container though...

soooo I am going to say something weird here... no .. you dont need one. Just Spray off the vehicle with a water sprayer or better yet a pressure washer. I promise you that the pressure from the water is going to remove more than slow moving foam is going to do. Also believe it or not the water does soften dirt up as well while RINSING it off! There are tons of videos online that show how much stuff foam cannons really remove (not a lot). They are only removing the top layer stuff that will come off easy with plain water, I mean how much do you think the slow moving PH balanced foam is really going to remove? Not to mention I have tried it .. soaked with the foam cannon rinsed it off and THEN took the pressure washer and I could clearly see a clean mark where the water hit. I have then since just started using the pressure washer without the foam cannon as a pre rinse before the two bucket method and it works a lot better.

The road film stuff isnt going to come off with regular car soap and no agitation. I have had good luck with spraying off the bulk of it first and then spraying the heavily dirty areas with purple power or another degreaser and let it sit for about a minute and spray it off. That removes way more than a foam gun will .. granted it will probably take the wax right off too .. but you know .. trade offs.

oh and I do not use my big 3200 PSI gas powered washer I mainly use a 1500 PSI electric pressure washer.

i would skip the foam gun and get a pressure washer if all you want to do is rinse it down. fyi, you need to physically touch the paint if you want to clean the vehicle, otherwise over time contamination will build up/bond and you'll have to clean it more aggressively whether it be by force or chemically. you can get a decent electric pressure washer for around a $100 at your local lowes/home depot..
