So today I went to this other store that sells all kinds of products to clean with from home to commercial to auto and more. I bought a 5 Gallon container of Cherry car soap (that I don't need but I got a fab deal on it as I get 25% off on all my stuff. I came home and couldn't wait to try it out. Used about 2-3ozs in my cannon and it was the bomb!! Loving this store more and more every time I go. What sucks is the pump part of it after im done getting it out of the container. It leaks soap for an hour or so and I feel im wasting it but I usually pour my soaps for this reason (kinda hard to pour a 5 gal. container though. Any ideas on how to fix the spillage problem guys? Buy the way, I told them about a buffing pad that got all busted up on me and they gave me a brand new MF cutting pad. Haaa gotta love em. Also purchased some glazes, dressings, and towels. All for $70. I said I wouldn't buy more products til Black Friday but I lied. Sorry

Just leave the pump in the jug

I wish there was a detailing store in my area I have to buy my stuff online all I can find is just the main stream stuff at autozone and advanced auto parts.

StillTipping when you say local, how many miles is local for you? Just wondering...

I use a funnel and an empty gallon jug. Fill the gallon jug and then just pour an ounce or 2 into my wash bucket as needed from the gallon. A "5" has lasted me all year and there's still plenty in the bucket.

Heck, I'd drive an hour if there was something! I've never heard of nor been able to find a store that would carry those kinds of detailing supplies.

Anyone know of one in St.Louis maybe? That's only an hour away.

Maybe you should open a store up?

No thanks. I'm inexperienced in the field, this area is declining economically, retail is risky; and I'm quite happy with my career as it is :)

All I have to do is look down the street at 5 year old cars with failed clear coat and filth from two winters ago caked onto the wheel wells to know a 'detailing store' wouldn't be a success. I worked at a Hardware store in high school and the first part of college. I handled the automotive department (along with a couple others). Can't tell you how many people told me how our $6 armor all or turtle wax car wash was such a waste of money because dish soap is basically the same thing and they've been using it for years. Rarely sold much in the limited collection of cleaning stuff. Just armor all or the occasional glass cleaner. Didn't carry much either!

I can get Meguiars 'consumer' grade stuff at Wally world. Basic MF towels and wash mitts, that sort of stuff. But it would be nice to have a place with a better selection. Buying online is no big deal I guess. But I am envious when people talk about going down the road to a 'detail store'. And the best I can do is see if I can get some meguiars wax next to the anti-freeze at the parts store! :P

Well, if you need something pm me and we can talk.

i do not need a local store. I buy all my "stuff" here at Autogeek. No sales tax, usually get free shipping and some really great products. I also get advice from Mike Phillips for free and product recommendations from Nick. They ship fast and correct any problem very fast as well. Best part is I don't have to spend my time or gas going to the store.

These last 4 sales rounds have been great! I have gotten Wolfgang, Pinnacle and DP products as cheap or cheaper than OTC products at Wally world.

I am a Customer for life!

The only problem is I spend to much and have to beat my wife home when packages are coming or the credit card bill!!

Sure. I've ordered from AG, and will in the future. Like I said it's not a big deal. It just would be cool to have a brick and mortar place to grab something if I need it right away and ran out, or even to be able to physically look at the products.

The Internet sales tax bill should push business back to brick & mortar in a lot of areas. Why pay taxes + shipping when you can drive a short distance and support local?

In theory though, internet businesses should be able to compete. They should, in theory, have less overhead. Companies like NewEgg compete with Best Buy, do tremendously more sales, have way less floor space, a much broader selection, and far fewer employees. They do have the overhead of expensive servers and things like that; but I think they can still compete.

Hopefully though, it will drive 'parasitic' buyers to buy. Buyers who shop local, but buy online. Nothing wrong with buying online, but you take the good with the bad. If you try it on at the store; you ought to buy it there; else it'll be out of business and you'll be forced to buy sight unseen!

It's getting harder and harder for me to find helmets and motorcycle gear locally because most shops just aren't carrying them. All people do is come try it on, find their size and fit, then go order it online to save $10+tax.

I have a feeling that more online retailers will offer free shipping in order to remain competitive. They'll work it into the retail price; so chances are prices won't actually be cheaper than in store. So what it'll come down to, is at the end of the day, it'll cost the same at a brick and mortar or online. Advantage of online is shop at your leisure, and usually a broader selection; plus no need to drive. For example, even if I would get Meguiars UC the same price at Wally World as I do Autogeek, Wally World still isn't going to carry DP, Wolfgang, Chemical Guys, etc. Companies like AutoGeek will make free shipping 'standard' and just match the prices to MSRP (giving them a broader margin because of less overhead to pay for the shipping), and we'll be inclined to even buy the OTC stuff just for the convenience of getting it all at once. If all I need is some CG clay lube, well, I'm already here and already got the credit card out, so I might as well buy my towels and Meguiars products and whatever else I could've gotten locally at a parts store or box store.

My $0.02. Personally don't think much will change with the online sales tax. With the exception of the 'try then buy elsewhere', which is a good thing. (Because they'll have to have driven there to try it on, price will be similar; so why not.)
