I met Mike "FLEX" Phillips today at SEMA!

QUESTION for conversation!

-Who else has Mike's book and what are some of the most impressive new techniques you've learned as a result?

Does anyone have any tips for cleaning a buffing pad that really has some set-in compound? I admit, I let it sit out for far too long before trying to clean it, but I soaked it in Optimum Power Clean, rubbed in some washer soap, and even saturated it with Shout stain remover to really try to break up the residue... but after putting it through the wash on the hottest setting TWICE, it still looks soiled. SEE PICTURES

Thanks for any tips guys... I only used it once on a single panel, so I'd hate to throw it away

Turn it into a compounding or polishing pad for grunt work...

Keep a bucket with pad cleaning soap nearby and after using a pad place into the bucket and actually squish it to fill it full of water/cleaning solution and let it soak while you continue to work. Then at the end of the day wash it.

Most thing will soften up when saturated with water long enough...

Excellent! See... this is why I wish I would have flown to SEMA and met you and bought your book BEFORE hand, haha! The other pads came out fine, but for whatever reason this pad stayed saturated with wax, which confused me because it was was the final polish step (although now that I think about it, you mentioned in your book that compounds and polishes are water soluble, and waxes AREN'T... so, guess I'm answering my own questions!)

I only have about 10 pages to go on your book Mike, I've been reading a few pages every day, so I don't take too much in at once!

HOW DO YOU LIKE THE NICKNAME I GAVE YOU ;) Haha, great picture, thanks again for talking with us!!

You mean,

Legend of shine

Hey I just keep it simple, I like to work on cars and I like to show other people how to work on cars, I remember my roots and where I came from and when I tried to get good information to help me reach my goal I couldn't find good information. So now I try to help others by providing good information. Pretty simple really...

I'm in my zone when I'm buffing out a car like this Catalina that I knocked out recently, or 1957 Chevy the week before...
