I am boiling with frustration.; Please tell me with the exception of moving how the hell do I get any detailing done. I live in a complex in CT, and the units either have garages or basements, and I am sure by my demeanor you can tell i have a basement unit. I ordered the original Fan Forum Kit about a month ago. There is NO shade, so I have to wait until 7:00 pm to do anything detail related. A few weeks ago I went to one of the do it yourself car wash places, and even though there are signs everywhere "no bucket washing or any detailing that does not involve there power hose." I had no choice. I got the Pinnacle Car Shampoo wash and dry, done and was able to get my entire truck clayed. A few days later again at around 7:00 I started the Klause all in one, and then moved to the polish. The plan was to wait 8 to 12 hours to apply my finale wax. Well the next 5 days the temperature didn't dip below 95 degrees. Finally today a nice cloudy day with a few breaks. I checked the weather reports 5 times and they all had 10% chance of rain. As I was finishing drying my truck after a quick wash, you guessed it the rain came down. No more than 20 minutes later the sky was clearing. I came out and redried the car and used the waterless detailing spray to make sure I wasn't going to wax over rain spots. I have my Porter cable XP all set with the wax, and sure enough after finishing half the truck I felt drops again.
How do I get anything done without shade? I am disabled with nerve damage in my upper body. My spine is over 85% fused, and I suffer from severe chronic pain. I Bought the Porter Cable to make detailing possible for me, and now it all seems pointless. I can't just go to a do it your self wash, because they have no power supply, and if they did and i got caught I would be asked to leave any way. There are not many days, let alone hours that I feel well enough to do anything, and when I do I would like to enjoy a hobby like detailing.
Thanks to anyone who put the time in to read my rant. I am truly frustrated, and I really don't want detailing to become one more thing my pain won't let me accomplish.

Why did I say this to you, you ask? Because I too know what it's like to be where you're at. Frustrated that is, pain as well. No, I'm not disabled, but everyone's situation has it's own intracies. You still don't understand why I say this? Take a deep breath and relax, then thank almighty God for that breath my friend.

You see, a few weeks back I lay in my own self-pity for a bit. Then I got a call my uncle was in an accident. That's when reality smacks you in the face my man. He's laid there for 1 month now; just took the ventilator out today. He's healing, albeit slowly, and by the grace of God.


Moral of the story...


Keep looking up, for the son will rise soon!! Take it to the bank. A man does wonder at times though ha ha.
 
Sorry to hear about your back. Hang in there. This has been a miserable summer! Weather will cooperate before too long!
 
I would definitely invest in a pop up tent, some extension cords, good hose, and some rinseless wash!
 
I also have health issues now - and also involving the back, also some pain - and I know what you mean about days when you have the energy.

Definitely, something must be done so you have cover to work under.
I've done some washing in apartments basement parking, some years ago, and there would have been more serious complaints if I'd done it again, often enough. The main problem would be having electric power. If that's possible, maybe with a very long extension cable, then it might be possible to do it and use a wet-and-dry vacuum to suck up the water. I'm thinking aloud here. It depends on a lot of factors - how tolerant or complaining the other people are.

The portable canopy - and they don't just pop up so easy ...you would need some place where it would be aceptable for you to do it, and if there's enough wind with the rain, it's going to mess things up anyway.
 
You have my sympathies, and I'm pretty sure the sympathies of all of the other forum members who read your thread. I regret that I don't have a sure shot solution to your problems; I wish there was something I could say or do to relieve your situation. Have you tried the waterless car wash products that can keep your car clean until you can find a place or until the weather allows you to wash your car the way that you would like to? I've used Optimum, and for me it worked well. The heat and humidity saps your energy and changes the way you think and feel, it frustrates and makes me get angry at the drop of a hat at times, it can also get you depressed at the way it hamstrings you in the things you need to accomplish outdoors. What I'm trying to say in my long-winded manner is to hang in there, brother. Things will change. You're not by yourself.
 
Sorry to hear about your situation. How are your neighbors? Do you get along with them? I would try and ask for the use of a neighbor's garage space in exchange for helping them with a project or perhaps even detailing their car. :props:
 
I think there are options for your situation...you may just have to seek them out. Maybe ask a friend or a co-worker if they'd let you come over and enjoy your hobby...maybe offer them a detail on their car. Go to your local fire department and ask them to use one of their bays. "Yeah right" you're probably thinking. Well...when I had to do community service as a graduation requirement for high school, I volunteered at my local fire department. After I put in some time there, they allowed me to join in with the rest of the guys as everyone would alternate washing their car. Always try to turn your negative into a positive. Not that many people in the world are going to take time and give you sympathy...then again...sympathy can only take you so far. Its up to you to get your mind right and make something happen. Hope all works out for you.

i live in ct too and im about to move out of my parents house and thats the one thing im looking for is a decent place to do my detailing as well. best of luck to you.
 
Wow I am truly blown away by everyone. I had no idea anyone would reply. I was just having one of those days. I am really moved by your responses. I do have great neighbors who are very helpful. We all take care of each other. Hoytman best wishes to your Uncle I hope he pulls through, and is able to move on. The bottom line is I can take care of myself and that is what I am thankful for every day. I also have a great companion, Yogi, my 2 year old American Mastiff. He is great and is trained to assist me with certain tasks. For 220 pounds he is a true gentle giant. The NFL is back, the temperature is below 90, and my pain is only at a about a 5 today. Things could always be worse. Thanks again to all of you, and I will let you know how things work out.

That's it...you're headed in the right direction.

Let me finish my story...

While sitting their discussing my uncle's condition with my aunt we overheard that a young girl in the SICU unit had passed away. My aunt said to me, "Just when you think you've got it bad (that was my aunt husband lying in there) all you have to do is look around."

Of course, we were in the SICU unit, but that statement holds true wherever we go.

Sure, I realized you were simply having a bad day...but sometimes a simple reply, or word of encouragement can help us.

Just like Mike Phillips passing along his knowledge...it's nice to pay a kind word, even some kind of support...pay it forward. That's all I was trying to do. Hope I've encouraged you in some way.

I to am disabled with chronic degenerative disc disease. The condition can not be corrected with surgury and the only thing that can be done for me is pain management. I am on morphine three times a day plus mussle relaxants and anti inflamatory drugs.
I have a detached garage and as a result of my four dogs it is imposible for grass to grow in my back yard. This makes for a not so good environment to detail my cars. I have a pop up canapy that I set up on the driveway in the front of the house and that works ok for my washing needs. However when I need to polish I go to my mother inlaws and use her garage.
Maybe you can rent a garage from someone in your area or perhaps there is some sort of detailing club which you can join.

Both of these suggestions will give you exactly what you need. A canopy will give you allot of flexibility; set it up and then drive under it. This will provide you with all the shade you need...:props:
