I'm seriously debating trading the Z for an Xterra. Not really sure if I'm sane or not because of that lol. On a side note, the gf just bought me a new full time job. We went up to the dealer to look at Xterras and she ended up trading in her black 2005 Murano for a black 2011 Altima hybrid.

Sometimes we all need a change in pace. Trading a performance road car for an off-road SUV is quite a leap but if it fits your lifestyle then go for it. A car is just a machine and worst case is you can always buy another one.

A black car is a full time job if your goal is to keep it looking wet.....

my gf and friends thought i was nuts for trading my 2010 toyota fj cruiser for a new 2010 gmc canyon. wow. are you crazy? giving up toyota re sale and quality? did it one year ago this month. and never looked back. i was just not feeling the fj. i love the canyon so far.

I have done things like this many times... I traded in my 97 C5 for a lifted chevy truck then traded the truck less than a year later for a town car then traded that for my rover... I got to the point where now I have my Rover and bought a Z3...

My other favorite ride would be a 4-door jeep...so kinda like you, I love my performance Mustang, but it would be great to have a jeep! (I had a jeep then traded it for a BMW)
I have had at least 25 rides in my life! For awhile, I used to have a car guy that would get me any car for $100.00 over wholesale. I was getting cars every 6 months! I was flipping cars and my credit rating shot out of the roof! I was paying off big loans and it was awesome!

Was in the same boat way back when. I wanted a Mustang & a Jeep. So I bought the Mustang, when it was paid off I got the Jeep. Best of both worlds for many years.

The Jeep lasted to 380k miles when the engine went. Wasn't worth replacing since the body was disintegrating. The 'Stang is now my 'off-road' vehicle b/c it sits in a garage waiting to be resurrected someday.

Owning a Mustang and a Jeep, I fully appreciate wanting an SUV. I love my Mustang but I don't love all the things that go with it:
1. Morons, mostly in Altimas (sorry if you own one), that need to try to prove they're faster.
2. Don't even think about driving in snow, ice or country roads.
3. Rock chips galore.
4. No trips to The Home Depot.
5. Wanting to tackle anyone that gets too close to it as they walk by.
6. It always needs one more modification for a little more HP.
I love it for weekend drives, but I won't be giving up my SUV anytime soon.

Well, overnight I came to my senses. Holding on to the Z until it's paid off then maybe I'll see about getting an SUV as a 2nd vehicle or something. Now I'm off to decide what to do with the gf's new black Altima. Debating whether to polish (already has fine scratches showing)/seal/wax, or polish/coating. Coating would be awesome to cut down maintenance, but having never used one I don't want to mess up while using it on a brand new vehicle.

Just my .02 cents, but hold onto that awesome Z and pick up a good used SUV of some sort later.

Hmmm, still debating this, but now I'm more in the early research and ponder phase instead of the "omg I'm at the dealer and being offered this awesome deal and wasn't expecting it" phase. I looked at a few other vehicles as well and I think I'm now down to Xterra vs. Wrangler Unlimited. Either one would end up in manual transmission, which means waiting for 2012 models on the Xterra since everyone only has AT's in stock. Apparently Xterra has a NASTY issue with their AT design related to the oil being sent through the main radiator and at some point corrosion happens and the two fluids mix causing the AT to die a horrible death.

Funny you're trading a sports car for an SUV.Me and two of my other friends who all drove Camaros for a few years traded for a yukon denali, cadillac escalde ext,and myself a honda pilot.Be careful, you'll want a sports car again.I'm looking into getting an IROC camaro as a toy, hopefully for cheap.

Go for it dude. I mean, why not?

Give something else a try. I wish I had the cash to try different cars. I think Ill stick with my Altima till I am either making enough money to play or till I drive this thing into the ground.

Altima is a GREAT car. Wife had one, got hit while stopped at a light by a Chevy conversion van doing at least 60. She walked away with relatively minor injuries. Car was totaled but it protected her great.

I'd consider buying a used 4 wheel drive pickup (and keep the Z car). Very versatile and you can put a canopy on it if you want some storage space. And the insurance premium will be less than an SUV.

I owned a 1988 Wranler for 14 years. It was built like a tank but be prepared to become a part time mechanic. They were totally unreliable. I don't know if they are better now. I doubt that after driving a Z you will be happy at how they handle on the highway. The Grand Cherokee which I own now (2007) has been very reliable and handles very well.

I'm always changing my mind on what type of vehicle I want. I'm more of a sporty, luxury car guy, but I'd also have the occasional use for a truck and I'd love to have a new Taco with a TRD supercharger installed.

This is why I tend to lease most of my cars too. :D

I'm a sports car enthusiast through and through, but I've owned trucks as a primary vehicle, and sometimes, a change of pace is nice.

I like your idea about paying off the Z, keeping it, and then getting an SUV(get the Jeep!). I couldn't think of being without my TJ, but when the wife bought the Z last year, we enjoyed the best of both worlds. Now, we couldn't even think of getting rid of either one. Getting a used jeep isn't out of the question. Just about any 03+ TJ or LJ(Unlimited) will be very reliable. If you wait for the 2012's to prove that Pentastar power plant worthy I bet you could pick one up at a good price.

Black Altima eh! You better bump up your wish list! LOL!

I don't regret going from the S2000 to the Tacoma. I do miss the S2000, and I think it was a very fine example of such a car - something that may be very hard to find in the future. But, it was completely impractical to own that car in my current life situation. With that being said, I'm very happy with my truck...been taking my bikes everywhere and towing the boat almost every weekend. It's nice having a vehicle that can actually haul stuff. :)
