With Flu season fast approaching. Have any of you guys or do any you guys offer UV-C light cleaning to your clients? Any thoughts?

Facts about using UV-C Light:

UV-C LIGHT IS INVISIBLE

"UVC works by destroying the genetic material of the organism. It breaks apart molecular bonds in the DNA and damages it beyond repair." says Jonathan Sexton, a research associate at the University of Arizona, who studies germ-busting products.

UV-C LIGHT ELIMINATES GERMS AND BACTERIA

Hospitals, food processing facilities, water treatment and HVAC systems use UV-C light to eliminate contaminants and germs that are the caus e of disease, colds, asthma, allergies, and infection.

YOU’LL SMELL AND FEEL THE DIFFERENCE

Seats and car seats will smell and feel fresh with consistent use of the Sanitizing Wand. Musty smells and pet odors are virtually eliminated.

SUSTAINABLE CLEANING

Cleaning with UV-C light means you don't need harsh chemicals that pollute our water and add unnecessary product packaging to our landfills. Reduced production of household cleansers means fewer chemicals in our environment and reduced fuel expenditures for transporting them to the marketplace.

ELIMINATES GERMS ON
  • Seats, head rest & car seats
  • Steering wheel, stick shift, emergency brake and other often-touched areas
  • Floor and floor mats

What is this UV C that you speak of. Is this to keep me from getting sick or to keep me from making my customers sick. I'm confused

I got two on eBay for $30 each. They are like the wands you see at the Airport when they search you. The two I bought also came with two mini wands for personal use.

where is it avail? price?

They kill germs and can keep you and your customers from getting sick. I try to push this service on people who have kids and pets.

Oh, cool. Maybe I'll look into this for all my Germaphob clients :dblthumb2:

Very cool... but I don't want them breaking apart my dna!

UV light will render germs and viruses sterile so that they can not multiply therefore making them harmless. At my last job we did a lot of UV sterilization in a medical grade capacity and I do know that sufficient contact time is needed for the ultra concentrated UV light to do the job. In my experience with UV sterilization, this sounds like a gimmick to me. But I am not a scientist, just a humble auto detailer.

Do you have any info on contact time or required frequency of treatments?

Isn't steam just as efficient?

I remember doing some UV exposure experiments with E. coli in microbiology, at 30 seconds exposure time most strains were knocked out, but a handful still were able to grow.

I seen a UV light and portable wand package @ Costco's' for $38, and I read the instructions "fine print", it said after multiple uses that sanitation what be complete. It looked pretty cool to me, then again I like lil gadgets.

I've been using a product similar to Lysol spray. Kills just about everything and costs like .15 per detail to use. Helps to prevent mold also.
