If you could start all over, what would your occupation be?

Honestly, I should have stayed in dental school. However, me and my family have been very fortunate and as the saying goes "if you're happy and love what you have, then you have everything you need" and that honestly sums up how we feel.

I’d stay in the same occupation but wouldn’t get on the helicopter I got blown up on so I could still be doing it.

Best answer so far.

You can be wrong 60% of the time, take a guess 40% of the time, and guarantee a nice day 18 hours from now (depending on the way that one front interacts with the other.......)

And even if you miss, people still don't hold it against you...

Boy, that's a tough question though. When I was young, working on cars was all I wanted to do for a living. Thankfully, (by all reports) it turns out it's something I'm good at so I've been doing it my whole adult life.

That being said, I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I don't see this profession as something I'll stay in all the way through to retirement. The hard part is I have no idea what I'd do instead.

I joined the U.S. Navy in 1969 and signed up for 6 years. If I had it to do over I might have stayed in 20 or 30 years and then retired. Hindsight is 20/20.

My brother says the same thing. I bet a lot of our vets think the same thing but when you are 25 and under 40 seems like a million years away. I've got a cousin who retired from the prison system at 40 after 20 years, then went to work for state working on a second pension. And here I am humping boxes as a UPS driver for almost 25 and have several more to go.

If we only knew? But, at least you do have the VA to fall back on in case you needed to. My brother is still working age but somehow uses the VA and his medical insurance and he has had a great relationship with the VA after a few heart stints and other issues. Still confuses me since to look at him you would think he is the poster boy for health. But, again VA has been good to him.

Bob

Ok Bob, now you are speaking my language. Years ago I walked in to the bathroom and my wife was listening to an evangelist on the radio and he seemed interesting so I asked her what his name was....she replied "Oh hunny, his name is Creflo Dollar." That was the last time she ever played Creflo Dollar in my house. I could go on and on with other "true" first hand stories but I would not want to offend anyone so I wont. I just tell people there are all types of predators everywhere.

BTW, if anyone ever wished to give to a charity and didn't know where please pm me, because I know an orphanage in Uganda that needs help and the pastor there doesn't make that kind of money.

An accounting/finance professor or a detailer. Either one of these would have been rewarding to me. I am a UPS driver now and the only rewarding thing to me here is a paycheck and the benefits, which I am not complaining. UPS just doesn't give me this "feel good" feeling when it is 130 degrees in the back of my truck and I can't find a package that the loader either put on the wrong shelf or another truck, or I get a write up because I finished my route today 40 minutes slower than some computer says that I should have finished...which again I am not complaining. Waxing cars sounds so much more fun.

That must be why it seems like my UPS driver always tries to hit 60 before he gets to the end of my driveway.

That is so funny. I know it may not be funny to you at that moment and I do believe we drivers should be more cognizant of our speed, but for most of us we get in a zone and if we don’t see kids playing then we haul butt. Over the years i have been reported on and stopped and cursed out a few times due to my speeding. All I can say at the time is I am sorry, but when we on average go out with almost 200 delivery stops a day we have very little time to catch our breath. Now, after 23 years I am probably the most “slowest” driver there is. I’ve had sups ride with me and want to write me up because I’m driving under the speed limit. Go figure.

Formula 1 driver.

I spent over 30 years as an airport ops mgr/director at 3 different airports and have no regrets but would be driving and detailing better vehicles as a retired F1 driver.

Or maybe...golf pro.

You need to tell more than this cliffhanger you have left us with!

Long story short, vbied just outside the t-walls flying into Washington heliport, green zone, Baghdad. Good pilots righted us and got us safely to the ground.

I would have done everything the same.. im throughly enjoing this trip im taking thru life. I have financial success, 47 years of a great marriage, good children and grandchildren. No mortgage, no carpayments, lots of detail supplies, half I will never use, but i have em!

I am a very lucky old fart!
