What did you guys pay for your websites? A family friend who owns a web design company offered to do mine for $500. I'm asking for a relatively advanced website with an appt system and a couple other features. Also, what insurance provider are you guys using? I called an insurance place and they said they'd do some research but that it's difficult to get insurance for auto detailing because of hugely varying car prices etc. And do you guys just have liability insurance or should I have more? Sorry if these sound like dumb questions, I definitely don't know a bunch about different types of insurance!

Regards,

Max

$500 is a pretty cheap deal if what you're getting is good quality. The guy I'm using charges into the thousands of dollars for something like you're describing.

I ended up bartering some detail work on his cars for having the site done, and he's working on it now.

I did mine myself through GoDaddy, I think I pay something like $10 per year for the domain and then around $7/month for the hosting/design tool called website tonight. It's not the best website, but the only reason I use it is so I can show people pictures without having to send them to facebook or a blog. Pretty much 100% of my work is gained from word of mouth, so I'm not looking to gain customers from my website, just be able to show pictures to potential customers I am talking to. hope that helps.

In my case, about $50 for hosting with Go Daddy and a couple days using the free Serif Web Plus program to build the site.

However I just got a quote for $200 to re-write my website, optimized to improve search engine results.

I've heard some horror stories about the discount host sites. I am hoping to find someone I can barter with as well, but $500 sounds like a good deal for quality.

As for insurance, it depends on what the scope of you work is. If you are driving the vehicles at all or people are dropping them off with you "Garage Keepers" insurance is a must. Simply talk to an agent about what you do or plan to do and they will guide you.

I've been looking at Square Space for my new website. Looks easy enough for a guy like me that operates a buffer better than I operate a keyboard. I'm getting better though. :props:

That is just plain cheap for the features you are getting. I would have to think that does not include photography and minimal if any artwork design. Will he be hosting it for you? If he is hosting your website how much is he going to charge you for that? Keep us posted and share your progress. Best of luck for your new venture in the new year. :dblthumb2:

I did mine myself through intuit. They have pretty easy to use software that helps you build your website. I pay 6 something a month for the hosting. That may not be what you're interested in tho as you want some fancier stuff. 500 for what they say they're willing to do sounds pretty good IMO.

I like your site, simple and to the point. Except the Header photo, for some reason 'cheap' comes to mind. Not trying to be harsh just honest what I think.

Thanks for the responses. As far as the price, the reason he's doing it so cheap is because he's a family friend. Otherwise it would've been much more! Ill post the URL once it's finished, thanks for the tips!

I got pretty lucky with my website after reading some of these posts. A friend of mine who does a good bit of photography for me offered to do my website for me when I was just thinking about starting my business. He said the hosting was only $20 a year since he already had a website through some place and he could use his existing hosting somehow. The website itself costed me $200. I wrote all the info and arranged all the pics I wanted so all he had to do was put it together. My website is currently in desperate need of a refresh and some of my prices need adjusted though. I haven't changed anything on it since it was made. I literally made this website before I had any real experience in running a business and realized I was working wayyyyy to cheap sometimes for some packages. So please if you do check out my website ignore the poor package/service descriptions. When I re-do my website I'm going to list the services descriptions rather than group them in a paragraph I've just been swamped with work lately.

I paid a fair amount less than what you were quoted for my site (check my sig) courtesy of seo4detailers.com

It does not have some of the features you mentioned, but I'm sure that type of stuff could be added pretty easily (it was designed with wordpress with has tons of plugins to add features to your site)

I personally think I got a very fair price as the site paid for itself pretty quickly

Nice website. Never knew you were local.

I have a couple people I work with that have boats and I'll email them your website.
