I'm doing something wrong with Collenite 845

Hi all, I haven't posted in a while, but hoping someone can help with whatever I'm doing wrong.

I'm getting one of my old Datsuns ready for a little show next weekend. The original paint is pretty good but I wanted to put a fresh coat of wax on it. Its the original single stage paint, in pretty decent shape.

After a wash and dry, I also used a clay bar on it. After that I put on a light coat of Collenite 845, let it dry to a haze. After trying to remove it, I get kind of streaking, hazing or ghosting... not sure what to call it. I've tried putting it on very very thin as well as trying a little thicker. Same results. If I go over the area a few times with quick detailer, it seems to remove most of it.

I put a short video on youtube so maybe you can see what I'm talking about. It seems I have run into this problem on other cars too? So, I'm not sure whats going on. LOL

Use a paint cleaner or a fine polish first. You may have some light oxidation that needs to be remove before waxing. The solvents in Collinite is smearing and causing the hazing.

Thanks for the reply Rsurfer! About 1.5 years ago I did polish it with some M205. I will try that again and see if it helps. I just hate to polish it too much because this old single stage paint it getting thin. I was still looking pretty good, so I thought I could get away with a quick Collenite wax.

Read the description--sounds like one can use this to prep the paint before applying BackFire Crystal Coating...
