I can't figure this out. The guy said that it happened when it was shipped from Hawaii so I was thinking that it might have been some insane salt water damage. But it's not that easy. I washed it and clay barred it and that helped to smooth it out. But it was still insanely cloudy so I decided work my way down to wet sanding with 1500. I'm experimenting on a tiny spot on the quarter. I went from using 3000 to 2000 to 1500. It helped ALOT but still didn't get everything out. It's really hard paint so maybe I need to just do more passes on it but I'd also like some advice! Thank you!

you would think a compound/polish would remove that no? Some very oily polish product maybe?

GSKR- what would make this not fixable? I've never seen this before so curious what it is.

I didn't think Honda would have that hard paint? I don't know of any Japanese car that has anything close to hard paint. Maybe try a cutting pad with menzerna 400 and go over it and see what it does? It'd take off less clearcoat than wetsanding. I don't even know what that is on the paint..

it's clearly paint failure.look at the lip of the hood and and how the paint or clear has ridges not to mention rust coming through. There is 2 colors showing basecoat which is a light blue and the topcoat is darker. The top coat is separating if you look at the pattern of the basecoat.1500 2000 3000 tells me it's spotty clearcoat damage. He maybe sanding through top coat and basecoat looks better, but in reality it's making the process worse. The door shot is hard to tell what we are suppose to look for.or chances are secondary damage occurred by rattle can paint spray.

Huh.. I thought it looked like a misapplication of a coating. Thanks for the info.

Yeah I can't figure out what it is. After I clayed it and took all of it off the surface it was even shiny in some place. He said his detailed in Hawaii put something on it before they shipped it. Honestly I think it might be a really shitty sealant and a lot of it. I just can't get past the cloudy layer. I'm going to do some more experimenting after I get released from work tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

If you look at drivers door handle looks like clear is missing.Need better shots of element to put this topic to rest.

What kind of pictures do we need

What exactly causes clearcoat to fail to that degree all across the hood and the doors? When I see paint failure, it's usually the peeling bits of white that starts off in a corner and then gradually becomes all stripped, but I've never seen something like that before.

I honestly don't think it's paint failure because if it was I wouldn't have been able to sand most of it out when I initially looked at it.

It's just really thick in some places

You shouldn't have to sand of sealer.Take some gas and rub it off.what color are your pads? Angle shots will help.after all the sanding and polishising is it reflective and glossy or flat.

Surprisingly my pads aren't showing any color. I'll try some gas tomorrow. On the fender I did, it was about 90% glossy with a few spots that were still cloudy. I'll take some more pictures tomorrow morning.

Find out what the "detailer" put on it prior to shipping. I take it you tried IPA? Spray liberally and let dwell.

Actually I didn't even consider that but thanks for the idea. I'll try that.
