When one orders a Dr. Colorchip package from Autogeek it says its coming direct from the factory. Does this mean that I'll get a separate package from Autogeek which contains my colorchip package, or that I'll receive a package from Dr. Colorchip directly.

I only ask because I took the weekend off to take care of my poor neglected GTI and I got everything but the paint chip kit. The hood of my car could REALLY use it and I don't want to opti-coat before I fix those chips.

Yup.

So which is it. From autogeek or colorchip?

I guess what I really want to know is, is it on it's way, or is there a wait time for it to be delivered to AG then to me after the paint is mixed?

I forget how mine was packed. But I believe it came from colorchip directly because my free sample arrived a few days before colorchip arrived.

Th time this has happen to me I got the package from dr color chip. Dr will mail it to you, not ag I believe. Its called drop shipping.

Sure hope its soon (no tracking info!) the weekend is fast approaching :D

I am pretty sure mine came from Dr. Color-chip directly, within a day or two of the AG order I made on the same purchase.

isn't there an off gassing period even for Dr. Colourchip paint?

I know a fair amount about detailing, but I'll admit I know squat about paint. Care to fill me in on this off-gassing you speak of?

well I can't remember exactly but I think the website said to polish before filling in your chips (make sure you scrub or powerwash any polish residue out of the chips before applying the system) then wait 7 days before waxing.

I assume the 7 day period is so the solvents in the paint have a chance to fully evaporate. Putting a layer of wax over the paint even though it seems dry to the touch would effectively prevent the paint from reaching its full hardness as the solvents would not be able to evaporate. For a regular repaint, I believe the off gassing period is 30 days.

I'd think that would also apply to opticoat. You may have to wait a week after fixing your chips. I'm sure ppl have waited less but it's really up to you. Just thought I'd bring it up so you could make an informed decision.

as an interesting side note, even opticoat has an off gassing period apparently. I read recently that it takes 3 weeks to reach full hardness...

are we talking about Dr. C or opticoat now or both?

curing implies you should leave something alone, but opticoat flashes almost instantly and you can get it wet after an hour. The resin keeps getting harder over 3 weeks however to the point of being harder than the clear it is bonded to in some cases. Would that 3 weeks be considered curing time? I'm not sure.

Apply the same logic to Dr. C. I do know that even if you wait a few hours, you can still remove the paint using the sealact solution. That tells me that the paint hasn't "cured" so you are definitely taking a risk if you apply Dr. C then opticoat it right afterwards.

Originally I had the crazy idea that I would just coat over dr. c after a day. The more I read here and thought about it, the less it made sense. I think ultimately I'll OC the panels that don't need the paint repairs. And then hit the rest of the panels in a week.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions Tim. Much appreciated.
