I've been fixing that damn cheap power cord every once in a while but today, was the first time, I had to quit my job and go home because I couldn't fix it on the fly.

Seriously, no matter how thick I put quality 3m electric tape, it will rip off.

I even tried taping a small pen around the cord so I couldn't flex it anymore.. didn't work, still got ripped, broken etc etc.

Anyone have a trick for these? Is it possible to buy HEAVY DUTY power cord and replace it ?

Seriously, if the flex's power cord don't do this, I might just shelf that 380$ just to have to waste my times anymore fixing it. It's really really annoying.

Are you only fixing it with electrical tape? The wires are supposed to be soldered. And yes, you can replace the cord with a 25ft 16g extension cord if you like. Thats what I did because I was tired of the short cord.

Just had the same problem my friend..... feel your pain there!

While polishing a bus - had one guy in front cutting with makita, I followed with cyclo. Makita went down (cause of cord) and couldn't finish the job in that same afternoon - extremely frustrating!

Anyone had these problems with any other rotary polishers or is it just the makita!?!?!

Yes, they are easily replaceable. I replaced mine last year and its been great ever since! I got the cord at my nearest hardware store.

These Makita cords do tend to be weak. But, I always bend mine the same way every time I buff. So, I guess its just bound to happen.

I guess I've been lucky as I have only had to trim the cord back once over the 3 year (so far) life of my Makita. It's usually the G110V2 that gets me with the cord problem. Now that I said that, I had better put a new cord and stress relief on my grocery list.

Yeah, I don't get the electrical tape and pen references--I'm not familiar with the Makita construction, but there should be a strain relief of some sort where the cord goes into the case of the polisher.

You know what? I will get you a picture LOL.

the idea with the pen is to make sure the cord doesn't flex so it stay stiff.

I got that...I just am unfamiliar with any power tool mfrs. using a pen for a strain relief, so I'm suggesting you shouldn't need to either.

I agree Dave, so far no problems with mine either. If I do run into this I'll grab or make a longer cord and replace it myself....:props:

My rotary is not a Makita, so I don't know their strain relief, but I've had a similar problem with other power tools. After fixing one repeatedly, I'll do my "ugly but effective" process. I slide a tight-fitting piece of automotive fuel injection hose over the cord and anchor it inside the tool handle. It's stiff enough that it won't allow you to kink the cord in normal use.

Wow, i've not had any of my cords break on my yet. PC, Flex, and Makita. I guess it is something I have to look forward to?

Use self sealing silicone tape Instead of electrical tape. Amazing stuff and most of it is electrical rated.

You can trying putting 1 (or more) layers of heat shrink tubing over the cord in area that wears to make it less likely to flex and fail.
