I'm not sure if someone complained.. maybe it was because of the direction things where going..

Leave Off-Topic intact and add Product Evaluation section:awesome:

I think Off Topic should stay a lot of good threads have and will continue to grow from there..IMHO unless the threads become vulgar/violent i see no reason to lock down a thread..if we where at a restraunt having the same conversation would we ask everyone to leave..

So true!! And besides, if you get rid of off topic, I'll have no place to post the cheesy songs that I write. I couldn't deprive you all of that! :p

Keep the Off Topic section. It's a great way to get to know what other Members are about beside being detailing Geeks. Stuff is going to happen. Either read it or pass on it. Same as pics that may not be something you want to see; others may enjoy them. I like the diversity that can be found when people from all over the world post whatever they feel like talking about. It's a choice that each of us has to make. You either read the thread or pass on it. This may be a simplistic approach but it's also a great taste of reality for all of us.

Nicely put!! Keep it!!!!!!!!

Like I said before you can choose which topics and thread you read and reply too, if its not for you skip it.

:iagree:
I have obviously, once again, missed something upsetting to someone. Oh, well if we did not have anything to kevetch about, all of our cars would be perfect and this forum would not need to exist at all.

I think off topic should stay. Not often do things get out of hand and over all I think it's good for the forum. Any thread can get out of hand and off topic. I don't think that bashing or being disrepectful towards other forum member should be allowed but that could happen on any thread topic. We will all not agree on everything but we should all be respectful towards each other.

Since this seems to stem from the thread I made... Here is my response.

I had placed the post in the off topic area because it was exactly that OFF Topic. As a community, I was expecting something more mature then the locking of an Off topic thread. At no time did I bash AG. At no time did I finger someone and say....YOU THERE I'M talking about YOU! But it seems that the thread made some points to many people.

Since I believe in the practice of free speech it would be a crime to take an OFF TOPIC area. I could say that you can tighten the reins as mods, but I'm not going to tell you how to run the forum. I could mention that the forums are a great place, but that is so bloody obvious...I still come to it everyday...many times a day.

If You are going to censor this simple use of speech then why couldn't you censor yourself. If you knew someone took offense to your avatar, why continue to use it...cause it was a power trip? I can remember one of the first threads I posted about my car...I was so happy about the 3 days of work I had put into the body...only to have people say that next time I should remember to do the wheel wells....UGH! I have seen similiar statement to other new members....shame. In fact Scott telling me to invest in a new car cover is exactly what I didnt need someone telling me to do...or did you miss that part of the post?

Did I wake up on the wrong side of the bed you asked... would you care to tell me...since you seem to know.

"Neither is a venue for our thoughts on woman/men/cars in general, but to detailing." Funny how those are your words....not mine.

In the final analysis, this is about my impression. I still believe that Autogeek is a diamond in the middle of the automotive detailing world. I have relied on their generousity, advice, and great customer service. I will hopefully continue to be able to so. Yes it was a bad day. Glad we could discuss this OFF TOPIC thread like mature adults.

Since I expect this to get me banned ...Megan, Max, Lauren, Gary, Texas, DS, and the others I dont remember... It has been a pleasure!

Keep it and add a EVO area hehe.... If you dont like a topic dont open it!

you do not know what is in lots of posts until you open them.

Keep the OT, but give us a direction on what you DON'T want us to bring up.

I'm virtually speechless that this was considered.

Ah Paradog,

I truly am sorry that you considered this post about you specifically. As you could tell from my previous posts I thought your post was about detailing a car that is used daily and sits outside. And how some are showing show quality cars that dont see the road much, and you felt we needed to get back to the backyard detailer. Obviously I was off, my bad. The getting out of bed deal was a joke, as I had never seen this type of outlash from you prior and thought something "bad" happened during your day.

As for me, you dont know me and please dont pretend to know me. I am a humble man that grew up in a middle class family. Our priorities are family first, while RESPECTING all others. I dont believe priests should molest boys, I dont think child porn is ok, but I do think a pin-up (something startying back in the 40's) is ok. I made it the hard way, because I got off my fat azz and worked harder than most to build the lifestyle I wanted. If you dont like it , sorry, and I respect your thoughts. I locked my post with the model as it offended some and I pulled the avatar because I wanted too, I change it weekly. I changed this one as it was taken by another forum member at Detailfest and sent to me, which meant as much to me as the model/photographer asking to use my car. Why ?? Because the Corvette is a daily driver that I spend a great deal of time on to look as best as I can make it.

Your post is nothing to do with free speech, it is however some chip on your shoulder or resentment you have here recently. I am sorry I somehow contributed to it. No I wont ban you, cause that appears to be exactly what you want. I will ask you to leave if you dont like it and simply move on. Otherwise sit back and enjoy the banter between us old folks as we relish cars, girls, and whatever appears to be the joke of the week posted in Off-topic.

And on the end note, yes Off-topic will stay. It was never going to go. It was however a ploy to bring out those of you who hide behind PM's asking us to censor this or shut that down. If it truly offends, it will be closed. If its in poor taste, just consider closing the post without comment and moving on.

I dont believe priests should molest boys, I dont think child porn is ok, but I do think a pin-up (something startying back in the 40's) is ok.There is a big difference between the pin up girls of the WWII era and the models that I have seen. DO not confuse the two. I made it the hard way, because I got off my fat azz and worked harder than most to build the lifestyle I wanted. If you dont like it , sorry, and I respect your thoughts. I have never questioned your lifestyle, do you feel offended? Why? If you really respect my thoughts then why the need to bash them? I locked my post with the model as it offended some and I pulled the avatar because I wanted too, I change it weekly. Interesting, because YOU wanted to, not out of respect of others that indicated it was not decent. How could you respect the thoughts of someone and still ignore their concerns? I changed this one as it was taken by another forum member at Detailfest and sent to me, which meant as much to me as the model/photographer asking to use my car. Why ?? Because the Corvette is a daily driver that I spend a great deal of time on to look as best as I can make it. That's great but still begs the question of why you can not censor yourself.

Your post is nothing to do with free speech, it is however some chip on your shoulder or resentment you have here recently. If I really had resentment then I would have stopped visiting the forum. I'm a big fan of freedom of speech but I also understand the intricacies of its meaning beyond running at the mouth without control. The very act of posting is an act of freedom of speech. But the closing of a thread would be the limiting of that freedom. If you choose to deny me or anyone that freedom then do not tell me that they do not know what the First Amendment is, because obviously you may not. I am sorry I somehow contributed to it. No I wont ban you, cause that appears to be exactly what you want. My statement about being banned was only due to the examples that I had seen, I do not wish to be banned. I will ask you to leave if you dont like it and simply move on. Self- control...novel idea! Otherwise sit back and enjoy the banter between us old folks as we relish cars, girls, and whatever appears to be the joke of the week posted in Off-topic. Since this is an off topic area...why lock a tread that was exactly that?

And on the end note, yes Off-topic will stay. It was never going to go. Baiting the peanut gallery? It was however a ploy to bring out those of you who hide behind PM's asking us to censor this or shut that down. YEP! If it truly offends, it will be closed. If its in poor taste, just consider closing the post without comment and moving on. THat is your right, no need to throw it in our faces.

Scott I respect your opinion, but I don't agree with your process of thinking. You seem to say one thing and do another. I have been a mod on many forums for many years, in many communities...it is a trying task. But please remember that you do not know me as well. I respect you as a person, detailer, and moderator. But power is really how you choose to use it.

good day

Todd

Well, I think paradog just said all that was left. I am glad that we had such a strong person serving our country as one of our troops. He has earned his respect fighting for our rights, so he should know.

Todd ... again we will clearly not see eye to eye on this matter or others. As a human I respect your comments and have listened. I will end it by saying, if you dont like me nor my methods than simply complain. I am certain Max will lend an ear and make the best decision for his company and his website. I would never hold anything against him and clearly this is not my main focus nor employment. I truly enjoy the hobby and the position he has afforded me.

This post is closed because I see it doing no good for anyone. Call it censoring , call it my power, or simple call it trying to bring the forum back to the family atmosphere that it had long before these recent posts arrived !!
