This ad has a Paul Harvey...The Rest of the Story thing going on if you look past the ad itself...

Sounds like a scam. I've been in this area for 20 years and never heard of them. I've heard of plenty of high end mobile detailers, but not these guys. Not to mention posting on craigslist may be the least professional way to market yourself, short of throwing cards out your window while you drive down the road. Just my .02.

Is a full time business. Mobile detailers must be on th job at 7 am I believe. Shop employess may have different report time.

I'm certain that you have seen their vans before, even though they work mainly in PG & Mont. counties.

4 Week NON-PAYED Auto Detail Apprentice Program

Probably a good way to make money detailing-free labor. I am not endorsing or approving this- just putting it out there. Make your own decisions.

-WOW...Thanks, VT, for bringing this into the open.
This has got to be one of the most short-term apprenticeship program in the nation!!

-Wonder if they will be handing out Journeyman Cards??

TO WIT:

TITLE(s): AUTOMOBILE DETAILER (Automotive Service.)
DOT Number: 915.687-034

Just think...After 4 (four) weeks, being "fully trained"....And...

For: $250-$500 a week...$6500-$13,000 a year, they're supposed to be able to do this:

-A Journeyman Automobile Detailer/Automotive Service Job Description (per: DOT):

Cleans and refurbishes new and used automobiles, performing any combination of following duties: Washes vehicle exterior to clean cars, using cleaning solution, water, cloths, and brushes. Applies wax to auto body, and wipes or buffs surfaces to protect surfaces and preserve shine, using cloth or buffing machine. Vacuums interiors of vehicles to remove loose dirt and debris, using vacuum cleaner. Cleans upholstery, rugs, and other surfaces, using cleaning agents, applicators, and cleaning devices. Applies revitalizers and preservatives to vinyl or leather surfaces, and treats fabrics with spot and stain resistant chemicals to preserve and protect interior components. Cleans engine and engine compartment with steam cleaning equipment and various cleaning agents to remove grease and grime. Applies special purpose cleaners to remove foreign materials which do not respond to normal cleaning procedures, utilizing experience and following recommendations of product manufacturer. Paints engine components and related parts, using spray gun or aerosol can and masking material. Applies paint to chipped body surfaces of vehicle, using container of touchup paint. Applies dyes and reconditioning chemical to vinyl tops of vehicle to restore color and condition.

-Not too much to learn in 4 short weeks....Yikes!!!

-I agree with you VT...Good way for "The Company" to obtain free labor...And they get to write-off the "training-funds"...To boot!!! Good gig, for them, I would say.

OK, these two posts are the reasons I've never seen them. Not too worried about them stealing my customers. I still believe that it's a scam.

250-500 a week? really?

YEP!

Thank you for reminding me that I had the Keurig preheating. I wonder how much that subscription costs?

And if you look even deeper , you would see the end goal of the CEO.
I guess I have nothing better to do- even though I have 6 products that I need to review for a vendor.

Damn, I thought I opened late at 9, ha.

This guy either started out as a franchisee or bought out somebody- not sure but I think the employees report early- don't know about the office staff.

They have been advertising for several months but never seem to have position available(prior to New Years), I see their vans all over the county- and its a big county.

The reason these employees make so little money is because they are on (I don't know the SHOP TERM) book pay. In otherwords , they report to work at a specified time but only get paid by the job. If the book says a particular job encompasses 'x' number of hours, and they work 'y' number of hours, then they are paid ONLY what the book calls for. These guys can actually be in the company vehicle, or client site, 16 hours and only earn 9 hours of pay.

* Proprietor claims to have made $35,000 in sales in a single day.

* Also states that Living Social is one of the keys to the company's success - contrary to what detail proprietors state here.

* 702 deals in one day - at 60% off to the customer.

The Rest Of The Story...?

...IMO sounds like some one is using the attraction of free classes to keep a gaggle of hands on deck, so as to complete the contractual agreements.

I first became aware of this outfit when I relocated to this area - I had to research the pricing of various car washes and detail shops (roughly 30) in my immediate area alone) to determine what the market rates were.

It sounds like a way to get 4 weeks free labor. Paid vs payed...Maybe they needed a paid proofreader rather than a unpayed one.

What a nice way to get chinese style labor. :-/

p@

* Maybe some good will come from this.

* Maybe someone will attain the skills needed to make it on their own.

I had to look for at least 1 silver lining.

I don't think there is really a silver lining, IMO this guy is screwing over people, plain and simple.

My bet is those are his "retail" hours -- he may have wholesale accounts that are done earlier than that, or later...

Makes sense. That's actually a great idea to set aside time for your accounts. Cause I usually get stuff thrown at me from my accounts, and usually have a hard time fitting them in.

Probably easier said than done unless you've got some really steady accounts. I try to stay away from them...I think it works, ha.
