So, how would any of you recommend starting with it, mine should be here Wed. The directions, here http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1248

Show that the sttting is just the opposite of what you are saying above? I want thick foam and less water.

You'll have to be the judge of which setting to use. In the link above, the setting is set for the max soap to water ratio. This setting will create tons of suds but will also use your wash soap much faster. I tried it once and my car looked like it was covered in whipped cream. I also went thru an entire quart container faster than I could say "foamgun".

In my opinion, you dilute your solution just thin enough for it to be pulled thru the siphon. Then you play around with the pin settings to get the foam ratio you. The thicker the solution in the container, the more suds you'll have.

Thanks.
So what would be a good sudsy starting point for me and what ratioss, in oz. pleaseises!

I would think, the ssoap bubbles would soak and start lifting the dirt and be easier on the paint than a first rinse.

That is a good point and I have thought about doing soak with foam rather than the pre-rinse. If I do, I'll do a foam soak with rinse. Then I'll re-foam the car before I wash with the mitt. I drive 40 miles one way everyday and pass many rural farm areas on the way. That makes for a good amount of abrasives hitting the car.

I guess it depends on which soap you use. I'm sure you'll get more foaming action with less oz's if you use the new DP foamgun soap vs Gold Class.

Based on my experience with Gold Class, I say mix in 6 oz's of Gold Class with 9 oz's of water. Shake the container really well. This will ensure an even soap/water mixture as well as start the foaming action in the container. Put the pin setting in the middle.

As you spray, keep an eye on the amount of foam you get and the speed at which the container gets emptied. Tailor to your needs after that.

You should be able wash your car easily with 3 oz's of GC soap if you just do a quick full car spray. I probably use twice that because I respray each panel and some into the wash mitt to get nice gliding action.

I put 2 oz of new soap in the foam gun, rest is water to about 3/4's full, shake, shake again, then push pin to far right for maximum foam!!

Meghan,

That's a pretty high ratio of water to soap in the container. Do you get more foam by using
  • a more concentrated soap solution in the canister or
  • using the higher pin setting but with a more diluted solution in the container
I wonder if the higher pin setting forces more air thru the solution? That could explain the higher foam production.

I'll have to play around with this again. I accidently filled my container up to the top with water instead of turning the water off (don't ask :(). I had a very diluted solution. To compensate, I used the second to last setting. This gave me a very thick layer of soap but also used up lots of soap solution quickly.

If the second option produces more foam, then I'll go with that.

Everyone has their own favorite setting, I gave you mine, you will find that you will probably have something different. Just start at the recommend and play with it, you will find a happy medium.

Anyone need a bucket?

The foam gun arrived and I broke it in this morning. I got up early before the heat got to high. So who needs two buckets for washing the car? Not me anymore! The foam gun rocks!

I had some Meg’s NXT soap that I wanted to use up since it is not my favorite. I fully expected to be unimpressed with the foam gun since everyone else is using more expensive soaps. Well, the NXT was just fine! Don’t ask me the ratio because I did not accurately measure. I used about ¼ soap to ¾ water, more or less. I really was not concerned as I wanted to use up the soap. It foamed just like everyone else’s pictures. Way cool! It made washing the car really easy.

At some point I’ll try the new DP soap, but for now I have a lot of Meg’s Gold and I expect it will foam nicely.

First I washed the Mustang that had been sitting outside. Lot’s of sticky grime on it. I was so excited about the foam gun I forgot to wash the wheels first. That was okay because it gave me a reason to re-soap the car after! I then washed the Jag which was not very dirty so using the Foam Gun made the job so much faster than the two bucket method. I was amazed at how much easier it is to wash the car with the foam gun. And fun too!

Next step is to try using a leaf blower for drying. I’ve read that many of you do this and it does made sense to me. My leaf blower is never used anymore since I outsource my yard work. I’m thinking of “detailing” my leaf blower and if I can get it clean enough trying it out.

What do you use in the foamgun for cleaning the engine?
