Incredibly Cheap Finds

The best deal I know of right now is at Costco. A 36 pack of 16 x 16 high quality microfiber cloths for $14.

Someone mentioned 5 gal wash buckets for $5. Just go to Wal-mart in the paint section with Wal-Mart logo they are $2.48

I can't recommend those towels for more than interior, engine duty, and wheels.

They are a good towel and are fine on all paints but the most delicate. When I'm detailing for dollars, I'm using the least expensive method that brings the results.

was at a few big lots and they had CD-2 engine detailer ( :props: ) for $4 and some EO1 products as well...

As you've already been reminded, they are not exactly "high quality". Although they are light years ahead of most other MF's in the over the counter environment. Especially less than 380 gsm units.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. :dunno:

"Good" is relavant. For the money they are EXCELLENT! Are there better 360~380 gsm towels to be had... YES! But buying them by the case is the only way you'll get them anywhere near affordable. Try MF Tech and you'll find some really nice 360 gsm's in cases of 180 <$1.00 each. The 400 gsm's are nice little towels too, but over a buck for sure. Spending in that range I really like the 530's as very durable all purpose towels. They are not like the Cobra 530's (not as plush) but I think much tougher construction.

That not withstanding, I own about a hundred of the older Costco/Eurow yellow towels which I don't use on finished paint unless it's ultra hard GM clear. Then I have well over a hundred of the newer Kirkland dual knap / gold towels. Once washed and tags removed they make a decent towel. I've had them work to do a IPA wipe on Porsche black without adding swirls but it was SERIOUSLY pushing it.

Can't say I'm thrilled with the edges on them, but I don't worry about putting them to (most) paint, (at least when they are virgin's). Like I said earlier, MF Tech has better ones, and they have silk edges, but at twice (and then some) the cost per towel. (And you have to buy 180 of them at once!)

Really like a lot of their stuff actually. Where you can save some serious money is on the 600 and 700 gsm units! (I'll never pay $7.99~$9.99 per towel again that's for sure.) :dblthumb2:

Why would you risk jeopardizing all the work that you've done, even if it is for dollars, simply because you didnt wanna use good enough towel? Thats a pretty irrational way of thinking imo...

My issue with them is that for rinseless washes, maintenance washes, or anything where polishing isn't going to be done it's just too risky. Why risk having to do a full paint correction over a few bucks and on top of that after a half a dozen uses to a dozen uses their paint use is pretty weak. Are they better than autozone like ones? Definitely, but they are far from high quality and like you stated many websites have towels that are much better quality for similar pricing, albeit slightly more.

Agreed. Why risk it.

That is because they (other reviewers) are being incredibly picky. I've got Meguiars Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels that I've compared the Costco microfiber towels too, in the end the Costco towels are very slightly softer and plush. If there are any complaints to the Costco towles is the short nap side is not as short as some towels which can limit it's use. If you are worried theese towels are going to scratch the paint then you have a major paint issue that exdcludes 99.7% of the cars that are driven on the road.

If anything, at 40 cents each, it allows you the flexibility of tossing any questionable towels and not having to worry about it. It is those questionable used towels that will likely scratch car paint.

I just bought 18 pack of MF towels at Lowe's for 12 bucks.
Will iusethem to remove polish and waxes, no but I'll get so many other good uses out of them.

The irrationality is not knowing the paint you're working on enough to know if a $0.40 towel will do just as well as a $4.00 towel. I have a collection of "premium" MF towels (Meg's, Pak Shack, and a few Cobra) and only pull them out on Subies, some blacks, and true exotics.

Also, picked this up at Lowes on clearance. The annoying thing about Lowes clearance prices is that every store can vary. My local store matched anothers online price though, heres a screengrab from the Redmond, WA store with the good price, your local store may vary:

Thats Awsome. Kobalt is good quality stuff. I think you can buy wing type shelves that come off the ends also or you can fit the craftsman ones on it.

Love Kobalt and this cart.
Should last you a very long time.

Great find I must say.
