Incredibly Cheap Finds

was at costco and picked up a box of the chevron fuel injection cleaner (6pk) and it's normally priced at $19.99 - 9.00 instant savings at the register brought it up to $10.99 + tax. not bad for around $1.83 a piece...

We have a friend who works there, my wife sent her a message to get the case and I would PayPal her right away.

Are they the larger sized bottles?

the bottle is pretty nice size and is 16oz and it says it will treat up to 16 gallons of gasoline. i usually don't use chevron (but lucas oil) but at this price i couldn't pass it up. who knows, i may go back and get another next week if they still have them...

Be careful. Those ads telling everyone that their injectors are "clogged & dirty" is great way to move product. Fuel injector technology has come a long way, and the filtration systems have as well.

I have seen cheap FI cleaners eat at these filters and actually clog fuel injectors. Sad part is, the consumer is conditioned to think he needs FI cleaner additives when regular fuel system maintenance will keep the engine running fine.

Very true. And FI cleaners are all but useless with modern Direct Injection engines.

Well my wife's car is almost 10 years old, not a lot of tech, LOL. My car doesn't have DI and isn't very high tech either. That said, DI cars need something entirely different to keep them clean, I've heard about the 2.3L turbo engines from the mid 2000's till right up when the speed3's went away. I wonder how other DI engines fare with carbon build up?

They dont do well...

This is a valve shot of my 2009 Mini Cooper S, at about 95k miles:

From what I heard, Mazda, BMW, and Mini were the first with widespread problems like this. BMW/Mini pull things apart and do a media (walnut shell) blast to clean things up, Mazda had nothing, so a few guys with Speed 3/6s were taking them to BMW shops to get the service done.

Dont know if anyone else has a viable solution yet, but I did see a cleaner the other day at an auto store for the issue...

Newer generation direct injection cars are doing better with the build up, at least the BMWs and Audis I see at the shop. Changing how the valves open helps with port speed/flow and has cut down how fast they're carboning up.
Boy do I have some pictures on my phone I could share of some 1st gen 335i's. I'll try and get them to my gallery and get them up here.

I've heard of some success with chemicals atomized in from the intake, but it's a maintenance item you when you have clean valves to start. It's kind of a tossup - either pay a bunch in maintenance to try and keep it at bay, or just let it happen then pay a similar amount to reboot back to perfect (walnut blasting).

I don’t see how it can clean the valves. Cause anyone who knows how gdi works knows the valves is what gets carbon. Sure the piston tops do somewhat too but the back side of the valves which doesn’t get hit with fuel on a GDI engine is the concern

That’s why you have to go through intake or further measures. Not the gas tank

*nods*

I'm not sure exactly what all that means... But he sounds legit.

Roger,

Techron and pretty much all good fuel system cleaners use PEA technology. We use a new technology that’s exclusive to us. It’s strong enough to remove deposits on Direct injected fuel injectors which cannot be done with PEA.

The product has been tested and when we ran it at full concentration it was so effective on some poorly maintained cars it threw oxygen sensor codes because of the deposits being burned. We decided to dilute the formula and recommend 2 bottles. That gets the same cleaning results without the code issue.

This is the email my buddy Matt from Gold Eagle.
