What is everyone's thoughts on the different types of microfiber towels? Do the high end ones actually make a difference or can you just cut up a towel and save some money?

look in search for that one. opinions vary like the wind, My opinion is you want a plush one for removing wax and anything that will be touching paint. the n i have some for the interior and some for gen dirty BS.

I used the autozone/walmart/BJ's towels for windows, interior, door jambs or wiping off compound. I only use the nappy side for the compound. Polish or LSP I use borderless blondes for.

Shorewood, IL Target has Meguiar's White Wax or Black Wax for $4.73 each. My wife picked me up one of each. She said there was at least 5 of each left.

Five gallon paint buckets from Lowes or Home Depot. Same darn thing as what some folks would call a wash bucket. I guess that fancy insignia on the bucket makes it a wash bucket. If it can hold paint it sure as heck can hold soap and water for about $5 ea. and you can get gamma lids for them for another $8 each.

+1

The hardware store is a great place to get 5 gallon buckets, spray bottles (even the cool dual action ones), tape, dropcloths, rags (I do use rags on my engine; rather not ruin microfibers on a surface that isn't going to scratch anyway!), even cheap microfiber towels, wash mitts, that sort of thing. My local hardware store even has a whole line of Meguiars stuff. All for a lot less than what you buy 'purpose built' stuff for. The wash bucket one still floors me. I'm not one to mind paying money for a good product. But what exactly is the reason for a $20-30 5 gallon bucket? Or even a $150 pad washer?

Oh, also, I happened to notice some sanding disc 'kits' for things like headlight restoration. You can get the exact same sanding discs at the hardware store for much less. Often from the same brands (3M, etc.)

I've used the hardware store for a LOT of things. Buying 'generic' stuff that is identical in function to 'purpose built' stuff but paying less. I once saw a motorcycle 'helmet hangar' that you screw into the wall go for $79.99 at a dealer. Looked completely identical (color and everything) to the tool hangars that the hardware store had for $20.

All you guys at Autogeek. I love ya! I'm glad for the selection. Don't mind at all paying good money for good stuff. But no matter how loyal I've become, you still won't get $30 (with shipping, but even the base price of $13 will buy two buckets and one lid from the hardware store) from me for a bucket. LOL

Also, by the way, I know the pad washers are a useful tool. But for what's in them, $150 seems super, super steep. I guess a pro could really see the value in that. As for me, washing them by hand is no big deal for that price. Wonder what would happen if someone came along and built one and sold it for $70? I bet they'd still be making money.

I agree.

Detailer buckets and pad washers are waayyy overpriced.

Its nothing but molded plastic, and the Lowes and home depot buckets way cheaper. I even bought the water tight lids from home depot

I have a Black Camry and am getting my Black Friday list together:

Here is a look:
Menzerna Polish PO85RD, Mernzerna 85rd, Menzerna finish po85rd
Menzerna Fast Gloss Compound, Fast Gloss 400, FG400 compound
128 oz. Duragloss Car Wash Concentrate (CWC) #902
Poorboy’s World Quick Detailer PLUS 32 oz.

So based on what I read I here is what I am considering for Black friday so far. I am looking for a really good tire cleaner and sealent for tires as winter is coming. Also would you add anythign else to the list?

I currently have:
megs. 26
DP poli seal
Optimum tire cleaner
misc shop rags
windex
poorboys shampoo
meguires back to black for trim

Leave feedback my budget is limited so Im going for that midnight mirror black look without breaking the bank and am open to ideas.

I am a big fan of d120 as well. Best deal in detailing. My wife uses it around the house and loves it also. 1 gallon lasts a long time.:iagree:

don't know if it's a cheap find, but walmart is carrying the megs wash bucket kit (various items inside) for Christmas for around $22-$23...

Yep, my wife uses it as well as APC+/APC and even my daughter uses it in her house (now that she's married).:dblthumb2:

Man that Werner platform I'll need to grab. Working with only 1 is frustrating as heck.

Meguiar’s Glass Cleaner Concentrate, 1 Gallon, dilutes to make an excellent auto glass cleaner. Meguiars Concentrated Car Glass Cleaner is great for

I really like Meguiar's D120 for glass. The gallon gives you 11 gallons!

Plus it's ammonia free so it will be ok to use on tinted windows (smells good too) :)

I have to Dilute more than the directions say and then it does the windows right. Its has to become a really light light blue color otherwise I get streaks. I love how much I get from a gallon though!!:xyxthumbs:
