Incredibly Cheap Finds

Zymol was the only thing I used before I knew any difference. To this day though I'll stand behind it. And for $4 I don't think there is a better wax for the price. Back when I was using it I was paying $22 for it. Imo it's a great wax. Maybe not the best but that's why Zymol sells "royale" estate wax which is 100% white Brazilian carnuba

When you find this stuff at walmart, is it in the automotive aisle or clearance aisle? Because I never see the stuff in automotive, and the only thing I ever found in clearance were some extra bonnets for the Stoner glass cleaning tool. I also can't tell if those are sale or clearance tags, so that could make a difference too.

Thanks for the finds btw! I'm gonna head out there now.

In the local walmarts here, they have an automotive clearance section. It's around the automotive section, just look around. They have great bargains at times.

These deals must vary by location. My Wally World's don't carry anything that isn't just ordinary OTC stuff..... and no great prices, just their everyday deal.
My Big Lots is even worse. They sell stuff I've never heard of for the most part.
The only thing my Harbor Freight carries that I would buy is Meguiar's 205 and 105, but, their prices aren't as good as I can get from Amazon!
Go figure, huh?

Wow I've never seen anything good at a dozen or so harbor freights. They used to sell collinite and once I got a clay bar kit on close out but it's all deep crystal wash and hot shine tire shine for $9.

Walmarts are definitely by store. I have two walmarts within 3 miles of each other and one time there was a water pitcher at one on clearance for $4 and it was regular price 28.88 at the other. Same with the Meg's buckets. One has full price right now the other is "clearanced" at $18.

Big lots has three stores near me and there's only one store that has a large auto section and the other two are almost laughable. If you have a larger store near you it may be worth checking it out.

I didn't mention this before because it's probably not going to help anyone else, but...
Advance Auto Parts has these tire plugging kits for $0.05. It's probably crap for it's intended purpose, but I got it for the tiny metal crowbar.
The crowbar is perfect for removing nylon pushpins. I use these instead of screws to hold my license plate. They won't rust, and it's easier to remove the plate when I wash the car.

Hope someone else finds this useful.

Here's a little bit of inside info on how WalMart works their inventory and how & why things are sent to clearance. I spent a little over 2 years as an overnight manager, crew trainer and new store opener up until right before the economy tanked. At that time, they were opening a super WalMart about every two weeks somewhere here in the PHX metro area.
Anyway, here's how it works.
WalMart is the largest retailer in the world with over 4,200 stores in the US alone. All it takes is a single order (initial order is 1 case lot and 1 backup case lot) of your product for every store in the US and BAM! You're in the money! That being the case, shelf space at WalMart is a highly coveted commodity - especially for a new company looking to get their product on the shelf and in front of consumers. There are literally hundreds of companies in line waiting for their number to come up and get their shelf space.
Every single item in any given store is tracked internally for its performance. When the quantity on hand reaches predetermined number, it's automatically reordered. On the same token, any item that hasn't sold a single unit in 45 days, is automatically sent to clearance. The department manager is sent an internal email with the item's sku #, clearance price, and authorization code which permits the labeler to print that item's shelf tag with the clearance price. Clearance tags are always red. Depending on how efficient and well staffed a particular store is is directly related to how soon an item actually gets red tagged and moved to the clearance area for that dept. Some dept. mgrs. only do their clearance stuff once per month and some do it weekly while others it seems just do it whenever they feel like it. That's the reason for the variance from store to store. Just because one store will have an item on clearance doesn't mean all stores are getting rid of it.
Now, in contrast to that, there are other types of clearances that have nothing to do with an item's performance i.e., mfr. has discontinued an item, mfr. has changed the label and formula and wants all existing versions gone prior to roll out of the new one or, in some cases, WalMart has severed the relationship with a certain mfr. and clearances all their items system-wide.
So, there ya have it. That's the low down on clearance stuff at WalMart.

Here's another interesting tidbit you might find useful.
All store mgrs. have the ability to stock items that other stores might not. There are lots of stores that carry specialty items that are popular regionally but would never sell in other parts of the country. For example, you won't find snow boots, snow shovels, etc. at a WalMart here in PHX. You WILL find shorts, bathing suits, etc. stocked year round though. That discretion held by the store managers extends to pretty much every kind and type of item packaged for sale in the US. If you ask your local store's manager to start carrying something that's sold elsewhere, and since we're talking about car care products, tell him or her that AutoZone or Advance or whatever local establishment carries the item you are requesting, there's a VERY good chance he or she will bring it in at your request. Appeal to his/her compassionate side by telling them you are a detailer and would very much like to buy your supplies at WalMart rather than the full-retail places. Now, keep in mind, the 45 day rule is in effect as soon as that item hits the shelf so how long your store carries it depends on its performance. But, if they do start stocking it for you, you can bet the price will be lower than the competition.

Holy crap I just realized how many towels that is.
I'm using 8 of these and I thought I had too many.

LOL, tell me about it, I just filled 4 last night with my new towel order, I'm running out of places to put bins! I'd rather have more towels than not enough!

Thanks for the inside info man! Sorry, cut the quote short just for space haha.

Man, that must cost a fortune lol. Good thing you got the containers on the cheap. That's a good idea though for like backups. I gotta carry those boxes out of the basement to use them, so the giant ones would suck. But if I outgrow those, I could always keep my stock in big boxes, then take what I need and put them in the smaller boxes.

Btw, repeated my quote n' post because I was trying to delete the comment and repost it in this multiquote, but it froze up, so I don't know if it's going to get deleted or not now lol.

Dang, I thought there was a Lowes on like every corner, I have 5 within 45 miles! Closest is 10! The towels weren't overly expensive once I shopped around. Makes it easier for laundry since I can keep a bin in the basement and rotate stock. The flip top is nice since I can just open and close on the go and not worry about if the lid on the ground picking up bits to be dropped back into the container. I originally saw them on someone else's garage and liked the idea. Now that they are on closeout I couldn't resist. The "new" style is $8!

Yeah the debris factor does suck. I always set my lids down upside down on something clean, and give it a quick look/shake before I put it back on.

What kind of towels are you getting? I look for deals for the most part, but the nice ones are still expensive. I don't want to get like the no name MFs from the store, or the buttload for $10 off ebay or amazon.
