Incredibly Cheap Finds

The oil you use is way more important than filter choice. Having said that, I prefer Wix filters.

IMO oil and filter go hand in hand. When you see what can happen to cheap filters sometimes it's not an area to skimp either. I know no one is saying this but just sayin'. Most oem filters are really good because they have to be but Wix and Baldwin are amongst the best out there. I've also used K&N and Mobil 1 filters with great success because of the amount of synthetic media inside those filters.

^^^^^ Absolutely!!!! Good oil with a cheap filter is a bad combination. It's like putting 87 octane in a Ferrari, Bentley, Corvette, Boss Mustang, I think the message is clear.

Oil filters are not all built the same, research proves this. I have been running Mobil 1 oil and filters forever and a day and most likely will do so until I stop driving. Are there better combos, sure, are their worse options, without a doubt.

In discussions on BITOG, I've never seen a Mobil 1 filter get a less than a great review. Wix/Napa Gold & Platinum/Fram Ultra also get great reviews.

How is everyone scoring such low prices on GG stuff at advanced?

My understanding is that they are getting rid of the slow moving items. The sale price is set by corporate but the store manager has the ability to set it even lower to get rid of it. I went to 4 different stores to find the elusive gallon of GG Speed Shine. None of the stores had any left and all 4 of the stores sold their last jug for different prices. One as low as 99 cents!

The deals at Advance are regionally based. Here in Oklahoma they have never heard of any deals like others have found. The idiots at the part counter all look at me like I'm crazy when I ask.

Atlanta metro has it at some locations. It's hit or miss but great when you hit the deal. I get a list of stores and call if I'm not out and about. Check clearance and also ask manager. As others have mentioned, the mgr can offer a lower price.

They do sell Mobil 1 filters at Advance and others.

I believe George was responding to the Walmart posts with that reply. Speaking of Walmart, they've recently started stocking a heap of K&N oil filters at my local store.

If the price has not been lowered you will need to negotiate or wait till Advance lowers the price. I negotiated a gallon of Speed shine down to $8 but it may be harder to negotiate a gallon down to $1.75. I did find a couple gallons marked down to $1.75

You sir know your filters. Wix is a very good filter but even it doesn't compare to Baldwin which is the very best filter produced on a mass scale out there. There are many factors to consider when choosing the best filter and I from years of study spread over decades I lean toward the bypass as one of the most important parts of a good filter and where many filters that could be toward the top of the list fail. Purchase a case of Balwin filters for your vehicles. I quit purchasing them one or two at a time because they are not always easy to find. There have been many occasions I had to go with a Wix when a Balwin wasn't available. Nice thread gentlemen. I've enjoyed reading everyone's input. I always learn something reading a complete thread.

I went by a local Advance Auto today. They had a few Griots products on a clearance shelf and about the only thing that caught my eye was a sealant and glass sealant. The paint sealant was $17.95 so I passed, the glass sealant rang up as 5 cents and the manager said they aren't supposed to sell it anymore and just gave it to me for free!
