I just want to know if anyone has or has worked on the infinity Q50.who would know about the clear on this car. is it soft or hard? color is black.

Infinity is owned my Nissan so I would say it's much harder clear coat then other asian imports

Anybody else have experience with this model? No English professors please.

It is Infiniti, Infinity is a speaker

Made me laugh..

It really depends..older Nissans in my experience have soft clear, but the new ones seem to have a hard clear..

You never know these days anymore.. a white Hyundai has a hard clear, while my blue has a super super soft one..

But from what i've heard about new Infiniti's, the clear is hard.

I've dealt with an obsidian black and a Malbec black g37s both have hard clears and even have stickers under the hood stating so. The g37 is what the q50 was before this year.

Thanks for your replies. The reason i asked is because my son just got this car about 3 to 4 months ago and it looks fine outside in the sun, but when
i took it inside the garage and shut the lights and put the halogen's on i couldn't believe the light scratches all over. i don't know if these were there when we got the car because it looks good outside. all i know is i am very careful washing and drying. i use a blower and waffle weave to dry so i was thinking maybe the clear was soft. I assume that means it scratches easy. correct me if i am wrong

If it scratches easily then the clear is indeed soft.

Do a Test Spot with some very non-aggressive products.

For example, use a Porter Cable with a white foam polishing pad and a fine cut polish. Inspect the area you buff with the un-buffed paint next to it and this simple test will tell you real fast just how polishable the paint is...

:)

I say wait until it gets worse. u cant see them unless your looking right?

They are SOLID, hardest clearcoat i have ever worked on!!!! Obviously they use Ceramic clear coat.

I only just finished a FX350d today, my second one and both as time consuming as each other.

Also the paint finish is shocking from factory with the amount of orange peel.

I did a correction on a metallic black (with what seemed to be a dark blue/purple flake) Q50 a little over a month ago. It was a brand new car.

The clearcoat on it is pretty hard. I used a wool pad on some heavier rids that were found on the hood.

It is indeed harder than most Asian clears, maybe on Par with Audi and Porsche (metallic) paints in terms of hardness.

There are definitely harder clears out there, but this is up there.

I used Flex 3401, LC purple foam wool, and M105 (with a little bit of M100 mixed in) for the compouding and finished it with a white LC flat pad and 205. Let me know if you have any more questions.

So they must have wised up and changed their clear. most Niss/Fini are soft.
