Inflation! $$

Can I ask what you do for a living and your age?

Im always amazed at the diversity detailing forums attract. When I first joined I thought it was just for people that did this for a living....a place to #####, moan and compare notes.
Turns out the place is full of pharmacists, lawyers, farmers, doctors, police officers, etc... There's even a guy that made his living taking pictures of food

Everyone loves a shiny car but all of us here are off the charts passionate about it. I’ve met several folks from all walks of life that admire having their car detailed to at least some degree.

How old are you and what do you do?

I'm 58....I retired at 45 (silent partner for a few years) no pension...had a visual communication production firm.

Film and movie production.......graphic arts.....commercial photography & marketing ...full lab services.
35 full time employees.....sold out in 2018.....live in a cabin on a lake.

Take pics of wildlife......play golf.......detail about 25 cars a year for fun and to keep busy.

I got off that debt train for good about 5 years ago.

I did finance my truck in 2012, but I got a 0% loan.

My only debt is my mortgage as well, and I would have worked to get out of it by now, but I have a special circumstance out here on the end of Long Island that makes me stay. (For now).

This place (The North Fork of LI, and especially Greenport, my home town) has steadily become the NEW Hamptons for the last 20 years with sharply rising real estate prices. But after the pandemic, City people are crawling over each other to live out here, and there are bloody bidding wars for each empty lot or home sale.

My wife & I bought our small house for 221K in 2005. (House was built new in 1985 for 57K). We just got appraised at 815k this past June. And it... JUST.....KEEPS.....RISING. It's insane.

While this is good for us personally, it has ruined a once tight-knit community and has forbidden our younger North Fork locals from even thinking about living here after they graduate High School.

Rant over....... ;)

When I first heard that I was DEEP in debt. $56k on JUNK. In 2011 I got out of that debt (2 years) and have been free besides my mortgage since then. Life has never been better, I make less than $70k a year and save $625 a month for retirement, help daughter pay her way through college debt free, have a $20k emergency fund and money saved for car and home repairs / replacement. Debt just holds you down. I think we are on the same page. There is no good or bad debt. Debt is DUMB and it SUCKS!!! FREEDOM is the way to go. EDIT: My house is down under $40k and worth over $140k lol. Until its paid off I will still be a slave to the lender.
You sound like dave ramsey lol. Congrats on your journey to being debt free. You have played your hand well so far

He was a lot further in debt than I was BUT the feelings of pain and fright were the same in me as it was in him in his book.

I listened to Dave for years on the road. (30 yrs as a sales rep). He gives a great boot kick. …it’s not rocket science just common sense. I’m debt free and sleep very peacefully!

I heard him on the radio too, his show always came on my news talk station in the evenings. At that point we were already half way into what he called his "baby steps". So it made me feel good and reassuring knowing that we were already doing all the right common sense things.

I will listen to his podcasts too when i want a little extra financial inspiration.

Classic Snake-Oil scheme.

You're either smart enough to call "bull$hit", or be a victim of it.

This has been taking place for centuries.

The weak-minded initiate their own downfall.
