Initial Impressions: Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing

Introduction:

I received a surprise package from Nick this week containing new Pinnacle products.

I'm not a tire dressing guy. I've tried different products and liked some, disliked some, and forgotten most. I like Blackfire Total Eclipse but the rest, I settle for easy application because I know I will be applying again soon.

Thanks to Corey again for providing the format and thanks to Nick & Autogeek for providing the product.

Product Claims:

From Autogeek.net site - Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing, tire protectant, tire dressing

"Put the finishing touch on your vehicle by dressing the tires to a rich, dark sheen!

Washing and waxing your pride and joy restores the sparkle and gleam to the exterior finish but don’t stop there! Finish the job by restoring a deep, dark shine to your car’s tires with Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing. Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing utilizes a water-based formula free of harsh solvents so it not only restores the deep, dark shine to your tires, it protects them too!

Tires and what you should know about them
The manufacturers of tire rubber add in a chemical compound called antiozonant. This compound protects tires from cracking and dry rot and it does this by continually working its way to the outer surface when you drive your car at speed.

As the antiozonant in the rubber is exposed to ozone in the air, it turns brown on your tires. This phenomenon is called blooming. Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing replenishes the rubber using natural conditioners that won’t deplete the natural antiozonants in the tire. Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing is a dual-purpose product; meaning it protects and beautifies your tires.

Water-Based – Won’t cause dry-rot
Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing is water-based as opposed to solvent based. The water-based formula will not leach out antiozonants or the natural UV absorbers in your tires. This preserves both the look and durability of your tires. Another benefit of a water-based formula is that it dries to the touch. Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing does not leave a greasy, slippery finish on tires.

Variable Shine
The amount of gloss provided by Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing is adjustable to meet your needs. If you prefer a low gloss, natural looking appearance simply apply one coat. If you want more shine then apply 2-3 coats allowing 15-20 minutes between coats to allow dressing to bond and set-up. Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing is the most versatile tire shine spray and can provide the look to suit anyone’s needs!

No Sling Formula
Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing dries to the touch and will not sling! Even if you apply it a little too thick, you can count on it sticking to your tires. The only thing that sticks is the shine!

Features:

Water-based formula dries to the touch
Will not attract dirt or dust
Non-sling formula
Variable shine depending on number of coats applied
Pleasant fragrance - no chemical smell"

Details:

1.- Packaging: Plastic bottle with trigger sprayer
2.- Directions: Clearly labeled
3.- Viscosity: A little thicker than water
4.- Color: White
5.- Scent: Sorry, allergies have greatly reduced my sense of smell but didn't seem bad, maybe even pleasant - soapy?
6.- Price at time of review: 16oz = $ 15.99!! SALE!! $19.99 Regular
7.- Manufacturer: Pinnacle Natural Brilliance
9.- Made in: USA

Other Products Used:

Foam Tire & Trim Applicator (Tire & Trim Dressing Applicators, tire swipe, tire sponge - I like this for spray products)

Preparation:

Thoroughly clean and dry tires. I used Pinnacle Signature APC for 1 & Zep Citrus for the other 3. Dried with 8hp MetroVac.

Application:

Spray on applicator and wipe on tire. The directions say to wipe with MF for less gloss but I didn't feel it was necessary.

Observations:

Best I can tell, very pleasant fragrance. Spreads easily - even into the ribs. Nicely darkens tires with a satin finish.

Does it meet its claims? Yes.

Pros:

1.- Darkens tires well
2.- Very fast application
3.- Beautiful finish.

???:
1.- Durability

Cons:

1.- None I've found.

Final Observations and Summary:

I was a little surprised at how much I like Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Dressing. I will definitely use on my car.

Better than Blackfire? Blackfire is thicker and doesn't spread as easily. Does last a goodly long time and looks great. If Black Onyx Tire Dressing lasts anywhere nearly as long, I might be tempted to say, "yes."

Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!

Sorry to bring back and old thread....

But compared to the Pinnacle Tire Gel, which would be better?

From my experience, you have to apply both types of dressing via an applicator anyway so the connivence of a spray type dressing is negated.

Anyone have experience with both Pinnacle's Tire Gel and Tire Dressing (spray)?

Thanks.

OP, if you like the spray you'll LOVE the Pinnacle Black Onyx tire gel. Its the best tire gel I've ever tried, period! Once you get a base laid down, the level of shine is controllable and it lasts a long time. I've found a simple swipe with your applicator that as it soaked in is more than enough to "refresh" it when need be.

Great dressing here! This past weekend I had to clean it off my tires in order to

apply tuff shine tire clear coat . As I scrubbed away I honestly was asking

myself " why am I removing this?" It was so hard to clean off the tire!! Great durability !!!

Hoyt, I didn't scrub my base dressing off but rather cleaned the tires twice, once with Purple Power and then with the provided tire cleaner in the kit with TW tire coating. That said I remember people saying ALL OLD DRESSING had to go when using Tuff Stuff and even then people said it wouldn't adhere to it, crazyness!

Tuff shine adhered really well. I was just saying pinnacle black onyx was hard coming off. :-)
Made me ask myself why I was changing to tuff shine

Matter of fact I just posted a thread asking for tire dressing products and since I am already a HUGE Pinnacle fan I am thankful for your review and to find out its a Pinnacle Product too! AWESOME!

My initial experiences have been very good. It has less of a coated look for some reason with crisp lettering with touch of a sheen. Very classy appearance.
