Input on Truck Detailing Process/product suggestions

CQuartz UK 3.0 has worked very well for me and is easy to apply. It's also economical considering all the sales PBMG runs. My favorite brand is available on a different site. There's a great thread by Mike on coating application. Prep is everything!

I am thinking i might just add the plastic husky liners to my order when i get my tonneau cover. That things gonna cost so much i wont even notice...hah. The liners are like 100 bucks a pair and they appear to cover more of the frame, which is a nice bonus.

I'd order dem Huskys ,guys tell me no option for plastic liners from the General

Awesome, thanks for the input. Are costco microfiber safe? If not, are the microfiber on the autogeek outlet safe? I’ll buy a name brand if im best off, just curious. Do you think 3 pads for polish and 2 for finish will be enough?

Costco microfibers are not good for paint but they are a great value for cleaning interiors, engine bays, wheel wells, wheels and tires. They are also good for applying vinyl and leather protectant.

Ahh good to know. I have too many wheel/engine tier microfibers as it is.

this is my hobbyist opinion. I am by no means an expert or can even scratch the surface of what some of these guys know. But I live in Rochester and have a 16 silverado that stays outside too.

Your buffer is the best tool, chemical, item etc. You can get by with just one sealant pad (black lake county), but I'd recommend 2. For my double cab silverado I used 4 polishing pads. 1 per side, 1 for hood/front and 1 for roof tailgate. Some guys use a lot more, but I think that 4 is minimum. Don't try to cut costs with the buffer in my opinion.

The iron-x and lotion are all fine too, but you mentioned being on a budget. If something has to go, I think it'd be these unless you have visible issues.

I think I missed if you were doing a polish then seal? But for a newer truck you might get by and save time with an aio. a lot of good aio's. mk360, hdspeed etc. I don't think you can go wrong.

you also might consider one of the synthetic clay mits. more expensive but would save time unless you already have the clay kit. You can do it while you wash.

not all mf is created equal, but you can find some good deals out there and they should all generally get the job done. I don't trust the costco/hf towels for exterior. a good quality 6 pack should handle your buff job though.

as for wheel wax, i'm not sure what you're using there. I thought the spray on, rinse off hydro blue was pretty impressive on my truck's rims. Never heard of fluid film, so sorry i can't help there.

I definitely appreciate your opinion/experience. After loading up the shopping cart i am gonna do the 5” vented plate, 4 white pads and 2 black, iron-x (since i can see raildust all along the rockers), and clay.

I own a ton of clay and clay lube already, also a mothers speed clay 2.0 which is similar to a clay mitt, but its more of a handle/grip than a mitt.

Gonna follow up w the lotion since i already own that too, and i wanna make sure the paint is clear and ready to suck up sealant. I hate this step but it seems like its important (im no pro either, hah).

Following that up w/ wolfgang DGPS, i already own that too.

For MF i am going to buy some gold plus jrs, probably the 12 packs.

The wheel wax i already have too, i got it from a local shop and the container literally says ‘wheel wax,’ hah.

Fluid film is a rust preventative, essentially a poor mans version of getting a ziebart application.

My budget is low mostly because i already own so much stuff, and i should be using up the stuff i have. Biggest replacement items are MF and foam pads at the moment, and understanding quantity for a full size truck vs my old dakota or my 3 series. The truck isnt gonna be a garage queen, just wanna keep her from rusting up and reasonably nice paint quality.

Thanks a ton for your help, its good to hear info from someone who has a big flippin truck too.

Your plan is a very good one.

I also have a DD/outside 24/7 full sized truck.

6 years old, and dare I say looking way better than the day I took delivery from the dealer with 5 miles on the odometer. :props:

Hey thank you everyone for your opinions, it was super helpful. I made my order, this is what I ended up with. Was tempted for a coating but i really should use up the product i have first. Hoping cleaning the pads on the fly will help stretch their life. I also have a feeling the paint wont be wildy dirty, there is no swirling or spider webbing in the direct sunlight, i havnt checked with LED but that's not a bad sign for a used vehicle.

Griots Garage 5" vented orbital backing plate
Carpro Iron-X Lemon, 1 Liter
Gold Plush Jr Microfiber 12 pack
Lake Country 5.5" 6 pack, 4 white, 2 black
Griots Garage microfiber and foam pad cleaner
foam pad conditioning brush

Total was 120 with the sale coupon applied. Thanks again for the help guys! Ive already got enough pinnacle cleansing lotion, clay, and WGDGS to cover the truck for another few details so that keeps the price down.
