interior dressing choices

hello all, new here to the forum and hoping to be pointed in the right direction, ive always enjoyed detailing my own vehicles and lately ive been detailing friends and family vehicles. I was recently asked if i knew of any interior products that were silicone free, ive been using meguiars ultimate protectant for a while and i like it but when i checked the bottle to see if it contained silicones i couldnt find anything on the bottle to indicate if it contained any. so i guess id like to ask a couple of questions, and hopefully im posting this in the correct section.

1) are there specifically any silicone free interior products you could suggest

2) since the bottle wasnt of very much help as to what it contains how can i tell if a given product contains silicones or any harsh chemicals i may want to avoid.

Chemical Guys Silk Shine without a doubt is absolutely amazing for interiors. If you search my threads, I have a few reviews on it.

The MSDS won't necessarily show silicone since different types and exposure limits may or may not require identification.

here's an example:

The product clearly contains silicone based on the name, but it is not listed anywhere in the msds.

I would look for products are are identified as bodyshop safe or safe for a fresh paint environment; as this is the only reason I can think someone would ask. You could also contact the manufacturer of a product you are interested in and ask if it is bodyshop safe. If so, it is inherently free of silicones that may contribute the fresh paint issues.

Other than a bodyshop, I'm not sure why else someone would be worried about silicone in the dressing. I use polydimethylsiloxane in all my Caesar formulations, don't try with Russian or Western though, it just doesn't work. :laughing:
 
Wolfgang Cockpit Trim Sealant works great. Dries to touch rapidly. It's not cheap but I'm still on my first bottle I purchased years ago and I've detailed hundreds of cars with this one bottle.
 
Meguiar's has some of the best trained Customer Support Staff I have ever dealt with.

Call the 800 number on the bottle and they can tell you in 30 seconds

Mike Stoops may even answer the phone. their Customer Service is in Irvine, California and all of the Customer Service Reps go thru the full hands-on training with products. They can often be found attending the Thursday Night Open Garage sessions

Thanks for pointing that out about the MSDS sheets, I was just about to ask about that next because the one previously posted for me when I looked at I didn't even see it blatantly labeled in there a D I was going to ask if there's any sort of scientific name it may go by, maybe explaining why I didn't see it. But you are exactly right as to the application, the friend of mine runs a body shop and wants something that's safe for the shop so he isn't returning the cars in a bad condition. What makes no sense to me is that none of their suppliers could even point them in the right direction!
 
As Jason Rose of Meguiar's has said, there are lots of silicones and they are not all bad. Ultimate Protectant is more water based than anything else and is safe on the interior. I agree with allenk4 about giving Meguiar's customer service a call.

A hazardous ingredient that's listed on a product's MSDS is also required to have its accompanying CAS#.

If you go to the Meguiar's MSDS, that was provided in an earlier post, along with the one for the EcoTouch Dashboard Protect...you'll see an ingredient {POLY(DIMETHYLSILOXANE)} that's listed on both products' MSDS with the same CAS# {63148-62-9}.

Now if you type that CAS# into your search engine...
you'll find some pertinent information about this ingredient's chemical make-up.

My go to product first and second is 303 Aerospace Protectant, but hands down Silk is my favorite.
