I have a 2008 honda civic coupe that has a terrible streaking problem on the inside glass. If I wipe it with a damp micriofiber towel I could see what appeared to be lines going up and down especially visible on the drivers side. I could actually feel them.

I tried claying and some light polish.. that removed the visible lines but the glass still streaks like crazy.

The glass does not get slick but catches when I got to buff it off. I tried different cleaners, vinegar and water and went through a ton of towels... still steaks.

The ouside and all the side windows clean up well...but the interior front is so bad I have considered replacing it...

Anybody have a similar issue... is this possible a honda windshield problem.

Have you tried using an window cleaner? Make sure not to use too much product, or else it will streak. You can pick up some Sprayaway Aerosol Glass Cleaner for cheap and it works great! My favorite glass cleaner.

What is sound to me is that you're using the wrong materials. IMO and IME you should invest in some stoner's glass cleaner and some nice waffle weave towels. Also, if you do go this route, DO NOT use a ton of product. It's not necessary. If your towel becomes over saturated, it will streak.

I tried several window cleaners... Same technique I use on other windows and different cars without issue. I have tried stoner and cg withincreased dilution rates (more dilute than what I normally use) even though the ratio works fine on other windows.

Normally I have a problem like this if I do not use enough clean towels but thats not the case... especially grabbed a bunch and ensure only clean ones were used for final buff off with only a coulple squirts of cleaner... Once again back and side windows everything is fine...

The apparent differnce is the glass still feels like it catches the towel when trying to buff... this being after claying and some light polish..

hhmm...maybe the polish is causing this?

Streak and "catching" problem existed before I clayed or polished... I used Meq clear plastic cleaner and washed several ties with damp microfiber to remove residue before trying to reclean...

Alex might be right. There could still be polish residue left on the glass. Try mixing up some IPA. That should dissolve any residue. Make sure the glass in cool to the touch and you are not doing this in direct sunlight. That makes a huge difference.

The only other tquestion that comes to mind is are you're doing this in direct sunlight and/or the glass is hot? Other then that I'm out of ideas. If you haven't tried stoners and a waffle weave towel then I'd suggest that. I've tried other stuff and I had problems with streaking. Once I tried Stoners I never looked back. I've also heard the new Meg's glass cleaner works really well.

Try doing what Ryan said with the IPA. Do you smoke?

That really blows man...sorry to hear it.

I had a similar problem with my truck and since it was factory tint I tried KAIO and worked great and easier to keep clean.

Car is in garage... Car has around 20k miles and I am second owner so I do not know if they smoked.. but I do not.

I tried IPA wipe and even some prep-solve this morning.. same thing... seem like due to the drag between the rag and windshield it just smear when you buff out.

Of all vehicles to have this problem on... these civics are a real pain to clean, so close to the dashboard etc...

Question - the windshield (and all side windows also) has a black banner around it on inside... is this tint applied to the inside of the window... if so and I dealing with a tint problem. Windshield is a facory install not aftermarket...

Man...this issue would drive me BONKERS!!! Does the "tint" around the windshield feel like its surface or smooth? I don't think its tint...I think thats how it is from the manufacturer.

At this point I'm just throwing out ish...try some goo gone and see if that works.

I've had success using hot water. You might have to go over the glass 3 or 4 times, each time wiping with hot water then toweling off. If that doesn't work try some Goof Off. That stuff has cleaned everything that I have used it on.

I also have a lot of problems with my Honda-product windshield (2003). I find both the inside and the outside very difficult. One time I used a mild glass polish (that I just used this morning on another car without issue) and it left a haze that I could not get off until I repolished with something else. The inside is also grabby as you describe, and there is a rectangular sticker mark that WILL NOT come off...I believe the inside has some sort of coating, perhaps related to laceration protection (GM used to put a plastic inner layer on some of their windshields but people would scratch it so they stopped).

Could be you are using to much cleaner, try backing off and see if it helps. I used to have a problem with streaks as well until I used less product and that fixed the problem. I might also add picking up a glass master pro cleaning tool it makes cleaning the glass a breeze, use the multi-purpose bonnet to apply the cleaner and to work it in then then switch the tools head ( it comes with two )with one that has a microfiber bonnet to wipe off any remaining product.

If any of the above does not work, try finding a local detailer that would be willing to steam clean the windshield. I would think that would work.

My wife is going to have the dealer look at it tommorrow in case they have some insight.

I also thought about trying a razor blade in a inconspicuous spot to see if I can scratch it... It is factory so I am assuming it should not scratch... We always use a flat razor blade to scrape off inspection stickers etc. and I can't ever remember an inside windshield scratching...

I might get one of those glass masters kits... I think my arms will love me for it..

I try a few more things and post back... thanks for all the suggestions thus far!

like someone else said try ipa, clay with glass cleaner.i have had good luck with autoglmn glass polish also

My wife took it into honda today. The service department proudly scrubbed the window and brought my wife back to show her the perfect streak free window... :)

My wife pulled the Brinkman light out of the car and hit the windshield... it was worst than when we brought it in...

Honda said they have some expert coming through next week that maybe he could look at it and see if they know what's wrong...

What a classic story! If Autogeek had a cartoon strip this would be the first one, with the wife pulling out the Brinkman...too funny. And the classic dealer know-nothing response and having to call in an expert.

Just a follow-up... I tried about everything on this glass including scraping with a razor blade..

Glass company come and looked at it... nobody could figure out what the heck was on the glass... Ended up replacing it...
