Could 501 be used as a cleaner and prep for McKee's paint coating? Does it leave any residue (fillers, etc)? How does this compare to McKee's own paint prep polish?

501 is a cleaner sealant, its in different product class as a paint prep polish. I wouldn't use the coating over a sealant and follow the manufacturers recommended steps

But if I perform an IPA wipe down wouldn't that negate any of the sealant provided by 501? Looking to get the car prepped just right before sealing it and eliminating any extra steps.
 
There is no guarantee IPA will remove the sealant in 501. I'd venture to say it would most likely not remove it. Why take the chance of compromising the coating--just use a product recommended by the coating manufacturer.

Well my only concern is that I have a couple spots that might require something a little bit more aggressive than the manufacturer's recommended polish/prep (Mckee's). But I hear what you're saying about using 501.

most people polish the paint before coating. As in abrasive polish. The coatings are semi permanent so its worth the extra effort to get the paint right before coating.
 
So what ever happened with this so called squeaky clean? It never came out?

edit: I see they have it but its not sold sepreately here.


Why, why, why, does Duragloss call their waxes "polish"? It's so annoying I refuse to buy anything from them.
 
It’s probably just as annoying as some seeing you call sealants - waxes.

Agree on them not selling SC as a stand alone product. But DG has very odd, old-school marketing. My guess is they sell enough product that ends up on auto parts store shelves that getting a little more business from nerds like us doesn't matter. (Don't mean that disparagingly - just saying the have a different business model). And putting SC on store shelves would almost certainly cause nothing but confusion.

The word "polish" is misused all over the industry. So are the words sealant, wax, and coating. Those four have almost no real meaning and can't be trusted as an indicator of what the product actually does.
 
I bought SC several years ago from another detail supply website. It is a great product. It really does help increase durability,and especially when combined with the DG Polish Bonding Agent.
