Hi there everyone! Wanted to introduce myself.. My name is Eric, I'm a huge passionate gear head along with my father. I've owned sports cars and now a sports sedan all my life. Currently driving 2018 Accord sport 2.0T I called a gentleman's type R or sporty. My father and I love detailing our cars. He has a 2017 M 240i convertible 6-speed manual here are a couple of pictures of my ride. My garage, currently use mostly McGuire's products and I have been using Hydrosilex ceramic coating for quite a while now. I'm sorry afternoon, I spent 3 1/2 hours fully detailing the car after a snow squall this past week I live in Central New Jersey.

Hi Eric,

Welcome to AGO! :welcome:

Nice looking "detailed" cars!

One of the best Roadshow Classes I've held was in New Jersey.

Pictures & Comments - 2018 New Jersey Roadshow Detailing Class

I'm currently looking for a shop in New Jersey for another roadshow class. These are 100% HANDS-ON and you and your dad would love it.

The link above shows the last class and a majority of the cars we worked on, not all of them, takes HOURS to process and post the pictures from any class.

:)

Hey thanks I'll have to check it out! Which detailing products do you use?

When I see a question like this, it tells me we're not doing a good enough job of "marketing" our classes.

I show MORE tools, products, pads and techniques than any other class on Planet Earth and I document it with pictures and video better than anyone that claims to be an Instructor or teach classes.

In fact, just TRY to find more pictures showing people on their feet, (not sitting in chairs), working on REAL cars, (not watching the instructor doing a demo on a hood or the class working on hoods).

I normally document everything I pack for a class for each class and I did this for the New Jersey class.

Just try to count how many different and unique brands are shown in this thread. If you can, I'll send you a free detailing gift.

Here's just ONE picture from the above thread.

No one in our industry shows more tools, BRANDS of tools, BRANDS of products or pads and techniques. No one.

Well that's awesome! I'm guessing you heard of Hydrosilex right? I mean as far as the spray on ceramic coating goes it's the cheapest solution out there.

I tell a joke when someone brings up a "new" ceramic anything,

In the time it takes me to turn in a circle, there's a new ceramic product on the market.

Yes I've heard of it and I have an article for it.

Find something you like and use it often

Very good article. It's true, the problem is for me, I'm very very indecisive so I go on what everyone else uses except for what I enjoy using. For me I just still like ceramic coating works perfectly it's quick and easy application. Easy maintaining The car during cold winters.

Hi Eric welcome to the forum.
Hey, thank you both very much! I look forward to sharing all my tips with you in the future and learning a lot. I just love having my car always as smooth and clean as possible. I treat it with love and care of course.

Welcome to AGO Eric!

I'm only about 2 hours east of you out on L.I.

Between the snow squalls and 500 tons of salt so far, keeping cars clean here in the NY/NJ area is a real challenge.

Welcome Eric. Nice rides. Yes winter is rough.keeping them clean is tough

Hey, thank you very very much. Yes Hydrosilex makes it way easier to keep the car clean but still....

hey, thank you very much. I don't know why they use so much freaking salt but they do! Yeah, that snow squall was crazy last week though!

Welcome to the neighborhood Eric !

As for why they use rock salt, it's mainly because it is so cheap compared to other products which will melt snow and ice. But it has it's limits ... besides corroding our cars (and breaking down the roads), it only works down to ~ 15 deg. F.

Calcium chloride is much better ... it works down to -25 deg. F and is more environmentally-friendly. But it costs a ton more than rock salt.

Haha oh yeah I completely agree. They just love corroding our cars to death now don't they! a major problem with salt and the cold temperatures is that my front tires even in normal mode barely hook up and I just spin out. When I use the paddles and sport mode which I call R mode, I just spin into second and third gear. I took me three and a half hours on Saturday to fully detail the car and then on Sunday for 40 minutes wheels and tires, plus detailing the interior.

In sport mode, the car's gearing means that it has a crap ton of torque!

A FWD car should theoretically do better than a RWD because you have the weight of the engine over the driving wheels to aid in traction.

Try ECON mode ... that will reduce throttle response. Definitely do not use SPORT mode.

Hahaha, yeah, I just use sport mode for the "fun" of it. yep front wheel drive definitely definitely does better than rear wheel drive. It's safe for, more efficient. And usually better for attraction. I barely ever use econ mode honestly. if New Jersey gets more than a few inches of snow, the car doesn't handle it really well regardless of what mode you're in though. maybe the basic word with the smaller 17-inch wheels does better. But with 19-in 235-40 r19 wheels it's not the greatest. when I first bought the car last year, I tried to climb a little bit but save me a few MPG isn't worth it to me for the gearing in the snow, it might be worth a try. Usually, I just go into sport/r mode unless I'm with my wife and then I just going to normal mode cuz she hates the way I drive lol

Welcome. Be careful... Hydrosilex was my starter drug. Good product.

If you like the spray on sealant (hydrosilex is a sealant that has ceramic in it.... not much). They’re a lot of less expensive products if found on AutoGeek that perform as well. Give Griots new ceramic 3-1 a try.

Looking for something more durable try a coating lite. Last longer and just as easy to apply. Just try not and fall to deep down the ceramic rabbit hole. It’s deep. If you do fall to the bottom tho be glad to see you here!

Love the design of the new accord. Nice choice.

Hey, thank you so very much! Yeah of course she's my baby! Honestly, this is the first time in my life for detailing my cars, that I'm using a ceramic coating on my car. My father still uses the traditional wax which is what I've always used. It's just that traditional wax application is so annoying. And traditional wax doesn't last the only as long. The huge advantage of Hydrosilex is supposed to be that it lasts up to a year. I've seen it last 6 to 8 months. Now, I'm extremely anal so I usually apply it a few different times but that's just me. Which product would you recommend again? Ceramic coating? I'm open and flexible of course new products. As long as they're not too overly expensive. The one other advantage of Hydrosilex is the fact that it's cheap as far as ceramic coatings are concerned. I know a lot of them are closer to the $100 mark versus the $20 or $30 more so to speak. What I'm looking for in a ceramic coating / hydrophobic coating, is easy maintenance, the mirror shiny effect even when the car is dirty. Lol. And easy application.

Yeah the new accords have the fastback design which is very very similar to the Audi A7. The sport models are very sporty. most people get the base 1.5 l engine which is what the Civic SI and Civic sport has. And the 2.0 the type R engine. And I drive it like it was meant to be driven ha ha. Basically, what my plan will be to do, is when a land parts on the car started wearing out, I will be upgrading them. for example, I'm going to be putting carbons around my brake pads, stainless steel brake hoses, much better tires, etc. My father and I have always loved our cars. I honestly thought about putting the JDM red Honda emblems on the car, but as my father and my wife pointed out I don't want to be a target symbol for cops in my area so I just called my car stealthy which is a great thing for me.

Welcome to our group therapy Eric. You will get great advice and great deals on products here. I am an old Central Jersey guy myself, raised in Edison and then bought a house in South River. Some people say that there is no such thing as Central Jersey but you and I know it does exist.
Nice machines you have there. If you like the ceramic coatings then go ahead and keep using and experimenting with them. I personally prefer sealants. I like re-applying product every 4-6 months. I actually enjoy the activity of detailing from the cleaning to the polishing to the shining.
