Iron remover

More details.
I wouldn't use an Iron Remover unless the vehicle has a rough and gritty dull finish. If the paint is in good to great shape I wouldn't bother using it. Exception being a higher end vehicle.
When I did use Iron remover on the Right side of this CD I rinsed and clayed. Clay never got corroded.
Left side clay job produced plenty of residue/contaminants. And very small section.
As for buff, I felt it wouldn't produce much in the way of a 50/50 to mention.

I consider a 50/50 shot prior to buffing as the ideal time for the pics. That way we can see if there’s any difference as far as any “marring” between both sides.

As far as that RV, I didn’t think to use an iron remover prior to claying but it would’ve been the perfect candidate being how rough the paint was + being white. Looking back I’m certain it would’ve bled.

Ok so I did some testing today: Perfect candidate. White neglected truck. Hasn’t been washed in about a year. So I did a bucket wash and dry. Paint was rough even without a baggie. With baggie even worse.

Taped down the middle and sprayed iron remover on the right side.

After 5min. I’d say we got some color change. Lol

Next since I had already washed the paint, I decided to go the extra mile and agitate with a soapy wash mitt.

Rinse with the hose, and now it’s time to clay using Megs consumer claybar. 1st the right side that’s been iron deconed.

This is the claybar before.

As I was claying, I must admit I was surprised at how little I was seemingly picking up considering what the paint felt like in the beginning. Once I was done claying the entire right side this is what the claybar looked like. That’s it.

Now onto claying the left side. Here’s the claybar before.

And here’s the claybar after. This side took noticeably more effort to clay and as you can see there was alot more contaminants that had to pick up. However there wasn’t any marring because there’s pretty much never any clay marring. Lol.

…And don’t think I forgot. I didn’t forget. I tested to see if there was any iron particles leftover after the claybar on the left side. There was. A little bit.

I wanted to test another panel to see if using the wash mitt to agitate was the difference maker. So I tested again on the roof. This time I only rinsed it off with the hose prior to claying.

This is the claybar after doing the iron side.

This is the clay after the non iron side. Sort of inconclusive… They were alot more even than the previous panel.

Conclusion: Based on this test on this particular paint it seems like agitating the iron remover prior to rinsing makes a worthwhile difference. Surprising results overall.

Didn't you do another test and was not impressed with a iron remover?

Yup. This test produced different results. I think because there was considerably more iron contamination on this vehicle.

There’s also a vast difference between the consumer claybar vs. the aggressive bar. Have to work alot harder using the white clay.

What clay did you use that was of the professional grade?
