Ok I know after washing you clay bar if you have some rough spots but is there anything to spray on before washing just to really loosen up the dirt and grim?

Ok onto my Iron X question. So after washing you clay bar and do you use Iron X after that or can you skip the clay bar and just use Iron X?

Wow, great questions.

I have a question for you. What are you trying to accomplish? After washing and claying, are you planning to remove swirl marks and scratches or are you planning to go straight to wax.

My suggestion is to buy a book on detailing and a great one is the "Art of Detailing" by Mike Philips, sold at Autogeek. It walks you through the process of caring for your car from start to finish. Materials, techniques and sequence. For example, it tells you how to evaluate the paint on your car and gives you alternatives on next steps based on what you want do to your car.

I really didn't answer your questions but I hope I have helped. It's the best advice I could give.

Some people pre soak with diluted car shampoo in a spray bottle or in a foam gun. Some people also use rinseless/waterless wash as a pre soak. There are also dedicated products for this p21s total auto wash is one I can think of, never used it though.

As far as i know it's Wash -> Ironx -> Clay. You would clay if the paint still feels rough after using Ironx. I would probably clay regardless just to see if the clay picks anything up.

That would be your answer.

Use your deironizer (like CarPro Iron-X) and tar remover (like Stoner Tarminator) before you clay, so you have less contamination overall to remove.

+2, this is pretty much it. Use a foam gun to pre-soak and loosen up the grime on your paint, then wash.

I would just clay, TBH. Iron-X is a great product, but it's also toxic.

Clay and detailing spritz are not.

you start with the wheels and work your way from there. 1st you want to do the iron-x -> wash (foam cannon if you have one) -> clay or nanoskin -> then wash again 2-bucket

That would be your answer.

Ok thank you guys it was a dumb question but they say a dumb question is an understatement asked question. I do plan on polishing and removing swirls and scratches and then waxing.

I appreciate all your guys help! Also another dumb question is iron x safe on all wheel types? Obviously I'm not going to let it sit for long then rinse well.

i have had no problems with it so far. just make sure you do them 1 at a time from start to finish.

Excuse my ignorance, but is Iron-X really that effective? Does it really remove contaminants that a good thorough washing and claying can't remove?

I would say yes. But it can be a bit overplayed I think. So I have dark cars but I sprayed it on a door of a light car. It turned purple on stuff that you couldn't even see with your eye. So it that respect, it works, but its removing stuff not visible. How much of that not visible stuff adds to to jack up your shine? I have no idea.

But if you look above at the 1 week old rims about pre- and post- Iron-X, idk, I don't see a difference honestly. I see it do what we all love and see it turn purple, but the before and after pictures look close to the same. There may be more of a difference in real life though.

How toxic? To what degree? What are side effects?

the pictures do not do it justice, they look so much better in person and i didn't have my good camera, these were taken with my phone

IronX is a phenomenal product. Here are some pics from my own experience. Hopefully you will see the difference. View attachment 27685View attachment 27686View attachment 27687
I tried literally everything I could get my hands on to remove the soot and exhaust. Including metal polish. After following the directions of IronX, these are the results. Easy to use. The product does exactly what it claims. It's not an over rated product by any means.

I'm not sure I agree with you. Maybe ironx requires more precautions when using (relative to claying) but that doesn't necessarily mean it is toxic.

But I agree that you it isn't essential, and although it usually makes claying easier you can get by with claying alone.

I just detailed a white 2009 f150 lariat and it had so many rust blooms it was unbelievable. The rust stains from the brakes on the chrome rims was pretty bas as well. I washed the vehicle, applied iron-x waited 10 minutes then wiped off. I then it it with tarminator. Once that was done I clayed the entire vehicle and followed up with a 1 step polish and a stray wax. I told him just before the winter he should bring it back and add an application of quartzuk for more winter protection.
