Working on this Volvo C70 yesterday. After multiple passes w/clay the horizontal surfaces still weren't as smooth as I'd like. I was going to spray them down with Iron X (which I have but have haven't used yet) It was sunny & 93 with heat index of 105, & I was reluctant to try it in that type of heat. Should I have, or was it a good idea not to?

I personally wouldn't do any detailing in that kind of weather (which isn't unusual where I live either). At a minimum, I would only do it early in the morning or later in the evening when the sun is not directly heating the paint surface as much.

Those sound like my conditions daily! I don't ever let Iron X dry. I have been told and read it and have never experienced it happening however never want to. I usually do it in sections to avoid it drying out. I'll spritz a section and let it sit for a bit. Again, not letting it dry. I then spritz a grout sponge and work it in and over that section. Then a good thorough rinse.

I have an old BMW trunk lid i use as my test for many things. I have pulled it out, placed it next to the vehicle i'm doing and sprayed it with Iron X and noted how long it took to dry. I then make sure i stay UNDER that time.

I believe Iron X should be used after washing and before claying. This heat is horrible when trying to do any type of detailing. Read directions, Iron X has a dwell time when doing that process and the heat might interfere..

Thanx, guys. Yeah, the heat was brutal this weekend, especially Saturday. My garage kept me out of the sun, but there was no breeze getting inside there. I'd detail for a half hr, then go inside & cool off. Back & forth all afternoon. Made for slow going, but that's ok. Car came out great.

If the sun isn't out, you are probably okay and the humidity probably helps keep the dwell time up.

I feel your pain though, I had a full wheels-off-the-car wheel/well and tire detail that I started Saturday night @ 7:30. Went through 4 shirts. The biggest problem I had was the lack of breeze like you mention. It was just suffocating.

Right or wrong I hvae used it in the heat. You really should use the Iron X and Tar X prior to the claybar. That being said make sure the car is wet and the Iron X does not dry. Also make sure you wash all the product off. I love that product!!
