Iron X Snow soap qustions

Another acid step in a decontamination system or another wash product which had some iron dissolving ability.

No not an acid product, a neutral, rusty iron specific decontaminator - like IX :xyxthumbs:

Its an organic iron reducing agent. Think back to high school Chem and basically it reduces ferric to ferrous. Ferrous is soluble. Im not an expert but this is my guess. Fe+3 to Fe+2. Quite brilliant actually
:)

The colour changers are more complicated than that. Quite literally, it is complex chemistry (i.e. the formation of 'complexes'). This particular class of product is very specific, so it will deal with your fallout and ferric iron but will not react indiscriminately with any metal it encounters.

Just to add a little note having read it on AG:

Note: Some decontamination procedures include the use of products containing Oxalic Acid. This acid softens the paint, exterior trim, and aluminum. Damage may not be evident for months. The Finish Kare Paint Decontamination System does not contain Oxalic Acid.

Oxalic is the primary ingredient in several popular fallout removers here in the UK and a lot of people on detailing world have taken the stance that it is identical to IX, just without the colour changing. Chemically this is utter nonsense and I am certain that Avi will agree with me 100% on this point. Now I assume Mike must have some level of oversight on what goes onto AG so I presume that AG stand behind the above statement. So there it is in black and white, be careful if you are using acid based fallout removers because some of the popular products are based on ingredients which are simply not as safe as people believe.
