Iron- X

Its the ammonium bisulfate you are smelling in there. Mild irritant but stiiiiinks. IronX spray is not as bad as TRIX, PASTE or AF Iron Out. These ones do not have the "cherry" scent to mask the odour. Once you smell one of those, you realize the spray does have a scent.
 
Okay, I sold myself on IronX once but when I ordered I ended up with 5Liters of Eraser instead somehow. I was adding and deleting a lot of products. So tell me why I can't live without IronX? Is the clear coat on my wheels going fail without it? Is the clearcoat on my car going to fail without it? I'm tired of purchasing items I don't absolutely need and a few love while others find they can do without. I'm not concerned about any other products at this point. I'm pretty confident I've found what is necessary and what isn't but Iron X is bugging me. And, is the snow soap enough other iron attacking products or is plain old IronX the way to go?
 
smells like ughhh---just smells really bad. Probably has really unsafe chemicals in it

Iron-X is one detailing product I could do without until I tried it. Now you'd have to pry it from my cold dead hands...

It isn't actually bisulphate but it is the ingredient you are meaning to refer to which causes the smell. The smell is of mercaptans, sulfurous in nature. The thing that sparks me to comment is that all of these products are quite harmful (IX has a harmful classification) and they are skin sensitisers (above just 1% active, EU regulations would indicate the need for an irritant classification). IX is classified properly, but there are products out there which claim to compete with IX but mysteriously have no hazard warnings at all. So beware, if your smelly iron remover has no hazard symbol, it either has to have low levels such that it doesn't get classified or it has been classified incorrectly.

That being said, one should wear gloves when using Iron-X, especially with the paste.
 
im new to this, but Iron X seems like a really good solution for cleaning brake dust off wheels?

Am I mistaken? How would a 500ml bottle last when used to clean 4 wheels each time the car is washed (2 to 4x a month)?

Im looking for a good wheel cleaner as my Land Rover tends to accumulate a lot of brake dust on the rims.

That's where the 1000ml bottle comes in handy. :)

Also, Iron-X isn't a wheel cleaner. You'd apply it after cleaning and drying your wheel first.

As far as good wheel cleaners go, Sonax is popular, but I've never used it personally. I bought both Griot's wheel cleaners, but haven't had a chance to use them yet. I also have DP wheel cleaner, which that one I actually have used, and I think it does a great job.
 
Gotcha Ive been looking at sonax, might have to pick that up and the Daytona brush combo from autogeekonline... Sonax is a color changing cleaner right?
 
One other thing to add...

If you're concerned about brake dust, I'd recommend applying a sealant, such as CQuartz DLUX, which will prevent the brake dust from sticking in the first place.

Yes, both Sonax and Griot's Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner are color-changing, but don't confuse that with Iron-X.

You might also consider the Wheel Woolies over the Daytona brush like I did. Some people don't like that the Daytona brush splatters back towards you, while others aren't bothered by it. Some people don't like that with the Wheel Woolies, you need multiple brushes to get everywhere a Daytona can, while others prefer the durability. Check both out, watch videos, then decide which one you prefer.
 
Thanks for the suggestions, I think im still going to go with the Daytona as I like the idea of just having 1 brush for most of the wheel, and then I can get the lug nut T brush ... man I wish I had never found this forum haha

Just making certain you're getting a brush and not the blue T handled lug nut brush with the foam pads because it doesn't fit very many vehicles. The woolies detail brush works perfect on all lug nuts ...... here's the link: Wheel Woolies Boar’s Hair Detail Brush 1¼ inch that's the only way to fly on lugs. If you want the blue T handle brush let me know...I have one for you that's been used once on one lug it's a waste of funds.

I didn't know about that Hazcat. I have one of the blue T-Handled brushes and it fits the lugs on all three of the Hondas I detailed recently. Then again, they all had factory wheels...
 
hmm good point... I guess I should find out the size lugs on my LR4 ...pm with a price for your T Handle cleaner
