I got the 1Z pro polishes with my PC and am worried that the IP is too abrasive.

"IP is a cuttin compound for the treatment of 1200 and finer grit sanding scratches, course swirl marks, light bubble, and heavy oxidation."

Maybe it has that much cutting power what used with a rotary? I dont want to take off more clear than I need to. Could this be compared to XMT 3 or 4?

Also, can I use the high gloss polish with an orange pad instead of white to get more cut?

Finally, what RPMs should I use the 2 polishes at? around 3500-4500?

The "rule" is always use the least agressive option first. So, I'd try high gloss polish first and see if the results are what you're looking for, if it's not removing enough scratches, bump up to a corser pad and then, if it's still not enough, try the IP. There aren't are hard rules to follow, in part becuase there are so many different paints out there that react differently to different polishes, different pads, and different combinations of the 2. Just experiment, starting with the least agressive, then share what worked for you (and what didn't) with the rest of us!

As far as RPMs... PC don't really have RPMs, their speed is measured in OPMs (Orbits Per Minute) and for polishing, you will usually use speeds 5 - 6 (I'm almost always on 6).

:whs:

very good advice

Thanks, but I only have 1Z High gloss polish and intensive paste. I am not sure if IP is a heavy compound or medium cut polish. It is the first, I dont want to use it just yet. I dont want to remove more clear than I have to with the IP.

You have 2 polishes... one is more abrasive than the other, and you have (at least) 2 different pad choices...

Start with 1Z High gloss polish and a white pad
if that's not abrasive enough to correct properly...
go to 1Z High gloss polish and an orange pad
if that's not abrasive enough to correct properly...
go to 1Z intensive paste and a white pad (maybe skip this one???)

go to 1Z intensive paste and an orange pad

Gradually, this long drawn out process will become much more instinctive and natural, you'll be able to look at the amount of correction needed, and (maybe) have some understanding of the manufacturers paint from past experiences, and make an educated guess as to where to start... you won't always have to start with the least abrasive things you have, once you can safely say that they won't be enough.

Despite of its grittiness, the 1ZIP is not that aggressive - and works well with a DA.

Thats good to know. What would you compare its cut to?
Is it ok to spread at 3 on the pc and then go to 5, or maybe 6?

A tad more than SIP initially, but breaks down very quickly, and finishes out really good, because it has a good working time.

The PC-routine sounds good.

I have both, and tried them both. The 1Z HP is really good at removing defects. I'd try that one first. I think you'll be surprised by its defect-removing abilities. The 1Z IP is also good. It will remove 2000 grit marks with no problems. I have used on black, and it has come out really nice. Maybe a just a bit of haze when looked by a trained eye, but I always follow up with either a glaze, PO85RD, or something milder. No issues so far...

The IP is about a 3.5 on a scale 1-5 in abrasiveness by my own experience
I would say it's like the Menzerna SIP

Ok, thanks guys. I tried them out on the whie pad that came with the PC. It removed some swirls, but wasnt really doing much on the MB clear. I put on the 5in backing plate and orange pad and it wasnt working right. It would bounce and when you put pressure to settle it, it feels like it doesnt have enough power.

I think that its I forgot to put on the spacer for the BP...:(
My dad took the car that I was testing on so Ill try it with the spacer later.
