Is a car cover my only option?

I've recently gotten a new car (not 2013 new, but new to me), and I've been treating her nice for a few months now. Washing weekly, waxing frequently, etc. I'm in maintenance mode now that I have done the long haul in polishing her to her former glory when I bought her.

However, my main issue, that I didn't notice nearly as much on my outrageously huge and white suburban, is that no matter where I park at my house, my sprinklers will soak my car every single night. This has gotten to the point that the nice washing and waxing I've done on Sunday is ruined come Monday morning due to the very hard water from my well coming through my sprinklers and onto my car. I've tried fixing their spray pattern as much as possible, but there is only so much I can do (Not my sprinklers, still living at home for while I'm at state college). They always end up, either from the wind or unlucky series of events, on my car.

On top of my sprinklers I have many neighborhood cats that love to nest on top of cars, mine included, and my entire driveway and street is covered by trees. Trees that only drop leaves or two or thirty are fine for the most part, I'll just brush em off in the morning. However, mine also leave a heavy coat of pollen I'm assuming all over my car, removing any look of cleanliness it may have had, on top of the leaves they drop.

So long story short, between my sprinklers, cats, and trees, my car is filthy the next morning no matter what i do the day before. Is my only option a car cover? I've heard many bad things about what they can do to my clear coat, but at this point I feel it's either I polish more often and go with the cover or deal with a dirty car 24/7.

I am a broke college kid, so the very expensive car covers are not ideal, but can be worked towards if they are my only option.

Please let me know what I should do, any help is very appreciated!

Set the timer on the sprinklers so they run when you are at school

Car covers are no good, especially outside. You have to find another solution. In order to use a car cover without scratching, the car must be 100% clean and the cover must not move. Once the car has a hair of dirt on it and any wind blows, you risk scratches. You can use a car cover inside on a clean car for storage. But to place one on daily and remove on a daily driver will create marring on the paint.

-You said this is well water...
But that still seems like a lot of water is being used to sprinkle the lawn.
That...and the pump using a lot of juice too.

-Have you found that this hard well-water is leaving some hard to remove water-spots?

-I agree with running the sprinklers at a different time of the day.
What I've always heard, and done, is not to water the lawn at night.

But that's my watering method.
What does your Parents say about all of this...
That's what really matters...IMHO.

Good Luck at School!
And stay away from using car covers out-of-doors, if at all possible.

Car covers used to be great back in the time of single stage paint, but with the clear coats like you all said they are a very bad thing..... And for a lot of reasons...

This might sound dumb, but what if you build a little wall to block that side of the sprinklers hitting your car. That can just be dug into the grass.

Just trying to help

Definitely! Here is some more info about when to water:

"Early in the morning is the ideal time to water for most lawns. There's less wind, less hot sun, and your lawn has a full day to dry. Watering at night invites mildew and fungus."

from here (under When To Water): The Right Way to Water Your Lawn - Lawn Care Issues

There is no where I can park that will avoid sprinklers sadly :(. My father refuses to change the time in which he runs his sprinklers, and, due to laws (only according to him, I have yet to look them up), the only other time I would be able to run them when I am not there would be from 5-6. He does not want to do this.

The water spots are not very hard to remove, but they are very visible, leaving obvious white circles all over my car, even when freshly waxed.

Is washing weekly or twice weekly not enough to keep the car clean to where I can use a cover daily? If it removes the water spots, pollen, leaves, and cat scratches, I think I can deal with polishing more often.

Thank you all for your input, it is very much appreciated!
