Is anyone using Square to take payments?

I've used Square for a few years now, but in the last year or so I have been using Paypal.

Square: 2-5 days for available funds @2.75%

Paypal: Immediate funds available @ 2.70%

Wow that's odd, here in Canada Square deposits in my account the next business day. And I believe Paypal is more expensive over here, but I have not looked in their payment solution since I compared them 3 years ago. At the time Square was the least expensive. Will have to check them out this winter to see if I should switch.

Aside from its benefits,I prefer cash or check I've maybe lost 2 jobs in the last 10 years or so from not accepting credit.

My OP was to see if one could sell eGift cards and take payment via Square. It appears that Square doesn't have that capability, only their proprietary hard copy gift cards. I signed up non the less because it seems straight forward and offers payment options for convenience.

However, in my quest for e-gift cards, I found GiftFly (not to be confused the with controversial Giftly) which is an on-line e-gift card system. Now customers can purchase gift cards on-line. Yet another avenue to market and attract customers.

You could just create a "gift card" discount in square register for a variable amount to process the gift cards at time of payment. You'd just have to figure out a way to "redeem" the egift cards to make sure they aren't re used.

Same experience as Calendyr: I get credited within hours. Square fees are now 2.65% too.

Is the PayPal card reader free? Last time I looked the stripe version was $79 and the then-unreleased EMV was going to be $199. That's hard to swallow for a sideliner like me. The Square EMV readers cost up-front, but Square credits you the 2.65% during an initial period up to the cost of the reader.

You can make a funds request via PayPal

All you need is the Customers email address that they use for PayPal

The Customer can then decide which PayPal account (Personal CC, Business CC, Checking or Savings Account)

Yes, Paypal card reader is free, or was for me over a year ago.

I also received my Square for free a few years ago. If you purchased one at a store for $10 then, they would credit you the $10 immediately upon completion of setting up your account.

Does PayPal credit your *bank* account immediately, or just your PayPal account? Last time I had to transfer from PayPal to my bank it took four days. I stopped keeping money in my PayPal account.

Your gonna have to claim all those transactions at tax time.

It deposits into your Paypal account immediately, and if you have a Paypal Debit Card, funds can be withdrawn from that.
