Is it too cold to apply Pinnacle Black Label...

I'm in southwestern, CT. I'm really hoping the storm will hold off. I coated the car with the sealant tonight. It looks awesome. I turned off the heater for safety but I will turn it back on tomorrow and let the garage warm up a bit. The thermometer on the A/C in my garage said it was 53 degrees when I applied it. The temp dropped down to 40-ish not long after I turned off the heater.

I'd say the 'trick words' here are "sealant" and "coating". I've not called AG to ask, but seems I remember Nick saying publicly that it needed to be 50° minimum for PBL coatings to work.

I figure the wife wouldn't kill you if you did a temporary heating of the garage. :)

I take a floor fan, open the door to the kitchen and pump heated air into the garage.
Then I'll turn on a little space heater over by the garage door to get some heat from the other direction. (If it's really cold I might put another floor fan in the garage to move air around.) And also take the halogens and use them to heat the surface where the coating is going on at.

It may take an hour or more to bring the overall temperature up enough to work, but it's worth it. :xyxthumbs: My biggest problem is our garage is so freaking big with an oversized 2-car on one side and a deep 1-car on the far side. That's a TON of cubic feet of cold air.

OTOH, I'll pump cold air out of the house in the summer sometimes to make it better than dealing with 90° temps outside. (When it gets hotter than that it really doesn't matter, it's time to just do all the work outside. Try to cool it then and it'll cost a fortune!)

lol...I've got an oversized 2 car garage with an A/C in one of the windows for when I'm spending any time there over the Summer.

I actually gave up on the space heater pretty quickly in favor of a kerosene heater I remembered we had in the basement. The trick with the kerosene heater is to start it up and shut it down outside. I also turn on the exhaust fan on the A/C and, depending on the length of time that I have it running, will also open one of the garage doors occasionally to assist with ventilation. It might be overkill but I'm not in the mood to die trying to seal my car's paint. :)

I was thinking about adding another 2 car garage this Summer. I'd like to keep costs to a minimum but I just might have to consider adding heat. :) lol

Please post more pics of the 45amg!!!

I am currently going back and forth deciding on this same car of a
lexus gs 350 fsport.

Quite different cars The 30 year old in me wants the cla

but the size is keeping me from pulling the trigger. The otherside of me loves the new lexus Gs fsport. For both the size and the fact that its an acutal midsize sport sedan. Don't have Audi S7 $$ or I wouldv'e already pulled the trigger.

Waiting for the cla45 amg to show up at the dealer next week. Coming in w/ Recaro seats.. Thanks for the heads up about the rock hard bottom I will have to pay attention to it. Hopefully the test drive will be my deciding factor.

Can't wait to see more pics of the Jupiter Red Detailed. :dblthumb2:

My brother have one Jupiter to with recaro and I LOVE Them. An option that you absolutly need is the amg performance Exhaust the sound is so sick.

The Jupiter red paint suck she is si soft sf4000 on a polish pads put swirl. I need to use a blue finishing pad to have a Nice swirl free finish ocp is a must.

Thanks for posting those pics!! Those Recaro's are so sweet!
Yeah I can't wait to hear the performance exhaust. The Cla45 comes in first week of Jan and I get to go to the dealer to check it out.. I don't know if it will have the performance exhaust or not. I've listened to sound clips on line but those never do a car justice.

I have a bottle of PBL Diamond surface coating at my house waiting on either my new cla or gs fsport... Can't wait!!

Nice, he got the Night Styling Package, too, I see.

My car has the performance exhaust as well. It's not overly loud by any stretch of the imagination and it does sound great. Unfortunately, the better sound is mostly reserved for those outside of the car! lol Inside the car it still sounds like a small 4 cyl. All of the tuning in the world won't make it sound like a bigger engine but it does sound good.

Jrocket, one thing you're going to find when you go for your test drive is that the car has a VERY weird throttle/pedal feel. It's very hard to drive it smoothly from a start. I think there's a way to modulate the pedal to get the car to react as you'd expect but it's still unlike any other car I've driven in that respect.

The GS and CLA are completely different animals -- size, content, etc. You're also going to find that the GS has A LOT more amenities and features in it because the base price point of the GS is a lot higher than that of the CLA. At its heart, while the 45 is an AMG it's still built off of a much less expensive platform than the base GS so you should expect less content, quality, etc. In your comparison, priorities are going to make your decision for you. Best of luck!!

P.S. What I meant by 'sealant' was 'coating.' Sorry for any confusion on that point in my original post. FWIW, it looks great this morning! I've got the heater running again to warm things up and will do a little more detailing to make sure everything appears as it should.

I personally would be leery of the cold temps.

I used the Diamond Glass Sealant on my windshield at the beginning of winter. I had the benefit of a heated garage for about five hours, so I let my truck warm up, and then prepped and applied the coating to half the windshield. It had a few hours to cure in the heated garage but then it it was exposed to the cold. The durability of the glass coating was very poor, which I attribute to the cold temps. I don't think the coating cured properly.

Next year I need to remember to apply the glass coating before the weather turns.

For those of you who are curious whether the coating worked, I took a handful of shots to share with the forum. This morning we were greeted with frozen rain, a perfect chance to see how well the Black Label Glass and Paint Coating worked (even in the cold). Sorry for the poor quality of the pics again -- they were taken with my camera phone.

I took a couple in a parking lot after returning to the car to find that the rain had begun...

...and a few more in my garage after driving home. The paint looks 'orangey' because of the flash...

While I don't disagree with Homer that the coating might not have adhered as well in the cold as it would/should/could in the warmer weather, I think it did something...and I know that the car will be getting a good detailing in the Spring anyway.

By the way, the first picture is of the panorama roof so the black part was covered in the PBL glass coating. Everything else was covered in paint coating.

I figured you would have good luck. I am in the same boat, I did my over Christmas just to see how it will work. This spring I will take the time to do another fine polish and coat it all and let it bake in the 90 degree sun.

I'm reposting the pictures since something clearly happened to them the first time around.

Anyway, here are the first two that were taken in the parking lot when I returned to my car to find that the rain had begun...

If this doesn't work then I'm just going to have to try moving the photos to Shutterfly or another hosting site. Sorry for any inconvenience!

I made the mistake of applying my glass coating in 40-45 degrees and it does not bead at all.
It was a new car and I figured that I didn't need to clay bar. I applied the Pinnacle Black Label Surface Cleansing Polish and then the glass coating. The glass coating seemed to go on quite well. I put the car in a cold garage for the night and it did not see any moisture for a week.

I used the wipers while driving to clean some light dust and the washer fluid(with Pinnacle GlassWork Windshield Washer) and the windshield showed no beading at all and the washer fluid to the sides of the wiper barely left the windshield.

A heated garage in Seoul, Korea is not easily obtained. Perhaps I will be waiting for warm weather to attempt another coating. If anyone has any tips for me, they greatly appreciated.
