Is my DA polisher defective or did I just mess up?

I think your backing plate came in contact with the paint. It especially would make sense when you were polishing the headlights as the pad and backing plate would be perpendicular to the bumper and could easily make contact if not careful/not experienced. Same thing for the door handle.

It seems fine when it's running. But when it's actually polishing, are all those vibrations normal?

P.S. I used orange pad last time. I'm using blue this time.

Yes you may be hitting edge with backing plate. might not hear it due to noise.

That sounds normal for a Maxshine. I ordered one…. Listen to that and sent it back and paid up for a Griot’s.

Those were pads that came with it? I would look for better pads as most bevel out better to give a little more edge protection.

Also when you were putting pad to paint were you pressing down? When you were polishing? You don’t need to press to hard at all as pads and polish/compound should be doing most work.

Also a lot of pressure can cause pad stall making machine less effective.

I would say better pads, and machine if financially possible and practice on technique.

I watched your video again, I just dont like the way the pad bevels down right to the edge of the backing plate.

When hitting corners or bevels on the different shape of body panels..(other than flat)...looks like a recipe for disaster from that backing plate.

It's almost as if the pad is too small for the plate...IDK

I would try a different manufacturer pads...maybe a bit thicker or bigger
