Hello All,

Saw a good deal on this and would like to get your inputs before I make my purchase. In addition to the PC7424XP unit itself, I'm looking to add the ff...

Meguiars W67DA Backing Plate
Chemical Guys BUFX Hex-Logic Orange 5.5" 2 pcs (to remove swirls...use with Meg UC)
Chemical Guys BUFX Hex-Logic Orange 5.5" 2 pcs (for polishing...use with Meg UP and/ or Werkstat Prime Strong)

I plan to forego getting a finishing pad as I will top off the above steps with a Werkstat Jett Trigger and OCW.

Am I missing something with the above list or perhaps you have other recommendations?

Thanks!

Have you taken a look at the Griot Garage 6" polisher? If not, I would take a look at it. Much more power compared to the PC.

+1 on Evan's recommendation and it has a lifetime warranty. You're going to need more pads than what you're considering--at least 4 per step and flat pads are more effective than those with dimples etc. Why not get finishing pads? To obtain the best finish with UP a finer pad would work better especially if your car has softer paint.

Well I agree with Evan as I just bought the Porter myself as a noob to polishers and I do also think it could use some more power. It will help getting the job done faster. BUT, if gearguru is new to this I would probably recommend the porter because it is safer. Guru no matter how hard you press on the porter you could not damage you paint. I mean leave it in one sport for 5 minuets i am sure it will but it is more forgiving than other polishers. Just something to keep in mind. If you do go with Griot, i would listen to these guys and go out and buy scraps to practice on first. Very easy to mess us edges on your own car...

Thank you all for your inputs.

I originally am leaning towards getting the GG but the offer of being less than USD25 and free shipping (so that makes about USD 50 in savings) make me lean towards the PC. Not to mention from what I read, people tend to limit using its power to level 5 (due to high heat) which if I would guess, puts it at the same level as PC. The lifetime warranty while a bonus is minor for me as I reside in the Philippines thus will not be able to take full advantage of.

Are the above factors legit considerations in getting the PC? Or GG still trumps it?

For the pads, will go with the LC flat ones instead. Much better value specially the 6 pack. For me not getting the finishing pads, I opted to skip it as my glaze and wax are all liquid (Werkstat Jett Trigger and OCW). Which from my understanding don't need a DA to apply.

I know the Collinite and Dodo Juice waxes should be a better options since I have a DA but for some reason, I find joy/ satisfaction applying the OCW regularly (just got myself a gallon) :)

You will have to make the judgement regarding $$$ savings yourself, but the GG is most definately an advantage over the PC in the power department. Don't forget it's a matter of torque so even on speed 5 the GG can spin a pad better than the PC on curved panels etc. On speed 6 it can't be beat and don't listen to the worries of melting pads--it's poor technique that burns pads not the high speed. If you try to do an entire car with one or two pads then you will over heat them. I use speed 6 on my GG all the time alternating between 2 sets of 2 pads--use pad 1 for a couple of sections-clean and set asside to cool--use pad 2 for a couple of sections--clean and set asside to cool--then use pad 1 again etc, etc. After half the car use pads 3 and 4 in the same manner.

When I mentioned finishing pads I was not refering to the applications of your LSP, but for use with Megs UP. Thin flat 5.5" pads are a good choice (especially with the PC)--they provide the most contact with the paint and are easier for the machine to spin. In the LC line you would usually use 4 orange pads with UC then 4 white pads for UP to further refine the finish before applying your LSP. The black and or blue pads would be for applying LSPs and while it is not mandatory to apply LSPs with the DA it makes the job of applying a thin even coat much esier IMO. Of course not needed with OCW

Thank you for the explanation. Now have a better grasp of the pros and cons of the two DAs. I can get free shipping on the GG as well so I guess adding USD 25 more is not that bad considering what I'll get :props:

If you don't mind another question, is the vibration/ sound of the GG compared to PC that big?

I have availed by the way 2 orders of the 6pc LC flat pad set and have divided my order to the ff...

Orange - 5
White - 5
Black - 2

The Black will be used either for my glaze or paste wax shouls I decide to try.

Many thanks again for your inputs and feel free to add more as you please :dblthumb2:

And to add to the above in bold its also too much product being used and an over saturated pad as well. All of that leads more heat being geneated which inturn cause the glue there for the pad failing.

All DAs product noise and vibration--I can't tell a difference between the GG and the PC. I would think that Groits would honor the warranty even if you are not in the US as long as you purchased it from an authorized reseller.

You can never have too many pads so 5,5 and 2 sounds like a good plan.

For cleaning your pads after use see if you can find DAWN Power Dissolver--it's in a blue spray bottle. I find it at Walmart for $2.83--spray on the pad, work it in, let set for a few minutes then rinse VERY well. Works better than anything else I've tried.

Also, make sure you watch some of Mike's videos re using a machine polisher and how to clean your pad on the fly--- http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...ke-phillips/23722-articles-mike-phillips.html

Thanks for the tip Evan.J and ski2...never been clearer. Cart is now just waiting for a discount and free shipping offer! ;)

Hi gear guru, i am in the same situation as you. Initially wanted to get the griots as a lot of people recommend them for more power over PC, but i am residing in the same region as you. I did send griot an email to ask about their return policy and here is their reply.

Hello,

Thank you for your email in which you asked under our lifetime warranty, and if you have problem with the orbital, if you can exchange it. The lifetime warranty will remain in place but we do not ship internationally, so I have no way under our current agreement with UPS what the shipping charges may be. We just do not and are not set up to ship internationally. You would have to have a freight forwarding service here in the United States or would have to secure the services of a broker to be the intermediary. I'm sorry that this is not much help.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reply to this email, or call our Customer Service Department at (800) 345-5789 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PST Monday through friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday,

Thank you again for your email , and have a great day!

Best regards,

Alan

And i have also heard unreliability about griot broken down. As we are not residing in US hence returning it to repair is quite an hassle. Therefore i took the same route as you... getting the PC. help it helps

Hi Alan,

You also from the Philippines? I bit the bullet and got myself the GG. We don't have a distributor for the PC here either so whichever I get and has a problem, I will have to ship in the US (since either me or my colleagues go there multiple times a year) or fix locally.

Thank you for sharing how you bought a polisher. Here's to hoping our units hold up! :)

I am from Singapore. I have taken into the consideration the reliability of PC should be better than GG6 after seeing the review online. some of my friend has own the PC for more than 5 years and it is still serving them well. Unless some brothers here can share their experience, reliability of GG6....

Have also check that in order for me to send to and fro will cost me roughly 70usd each trip is simply not worth it.

Oh ok. I also saw threads of issues/ malfunction but majority of these are from the 2nd gen model. GG6 has always been my choice but only considered the PC as it was on sale.

Both are highly regarded models/ brands so I'm positive(ly hoping) that defects are limited to a select few :)

I have also decided to go for GG6 after seeing the video comparison... So much powerful than PC!

Well for me from amazon, GG6 130.90usd vs PC7424XP 118usd. With step down transformer price diff ard 50usd...
