is the Nissan GT-R the best bang for the buck sports car out there?

Someone send me one and I will let you guys know... I promise to post pictures and videos... :props:

Call me faithful but I would go with the American Vette all day, all of them pretty cool cars!

As a Vette owner I too am biased, and my father is a GM for Nissan. The ZR1 is beautiful in person but almost sedate and blends in all to well with traffic. The GTR is much uglier in person, much lower than originally thought, and offers the technology and performance of a giant. It goes like stink quickly, but dont screw with it too much as they will void your warranty and track all your uses (or should I say abuses).

I think they both garner somewhat different clients although pricing generally is close enough to each other for their perspective clients income. (I am not even including the 5k-10k markups on GTRs). I find the boy racer, the Fast Furious type crowd loves the GTR and its looks. Whereas the family man that made it prefers the ZR1 and doesnt mind blending in knowing real long term car guys can spot the differences immediately versus Z06.

The best part is there is no wrong choice and you can still modify each somewhat to stand out as yours in performance or looks.

Since we are now stereotyping I have to agree that Corvette owners and GTR owners are quite different in nature. Being a GT-R owner I do somewhat agree that a large part of the "fan base" is the boy racer and video game playing crowd. How else do you think the car has gained its popularity here in the states? I can assure you it is not from watching Japanese car races. However, the fan base may be a misrepresentation of the actual ownership. The GT-R was slotted as a competitor mainly with the Porsche Turbo....not so much the ZO6 or ZR1. Coming from the GTR boards I never see anyone talking about trading in their Corvette for a GTR or vice versa. However, quite often I see owners talking about trading in their Porsche for GTRs and vice versa.

Point is, both cars have unbelievable performance for the price but are targeted to different people and marketed in totally different ways. One represents the iconic American muscle with a very long following and the other is Japanese technology that is fairly new to the US.

I'm biased with regards to the ZR1. But, if a GT-R found it's way into my garage, I wouldn't kick it out.

Im not too much a fan of the looks of the GT-R myself (Except in black..then it looks proper).

But in response to the comparison to the ZR-1, here are some factory stats. (Mind you this is the original GT-R, not the SpecV, and not the updated 2011 model.)

2009 Corvette ZR1
Price: $106,500
Power 638 bhp
0 - 60 mph: 3.4 seconds
0 - 100 mph: 7.8 seconds
0 - 1/4 mile: 12.8 seconds

2008 nissan GT-R
Price: $69,850
Power: 473 bhp
0 - 60 mph: 3.5 seconds
0 - 100 mph: 8.5 seconds
0 - 1/4 mile: 11.7 seconds

Now that looks pretty damn close in performance, and for the price diff, I would definitely say the GT-R is bang for the buck. Pretty big bang actually.

Now, lets compare it to one of the big players.

The 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia
Price $225,000
Power: 562 bhp
0 - 60 mph: 3.3 seconds
0 - 100 mph: 6.9 seconds
0 - 1/4 mile: 11.2 seconds

Once again, not too far off, especially in 1/4 mile times.

So those are straight line examples. Now lets get on to what really counts. The twisties.

On the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the mother of all things left and right, here are the scores.

2008 Nissan GT-R: 7:26.70
2010 Ferrari 458 Italia: 7:28.00
2009 Corvette ZR1: 7:26.40

Once again, the GT-R shows its incredible performance over the higher cost super/hypercars.

Now, the new model, is about $15,000 more, but also has the power up to 523 bhp.

They recently tested it at the Nordschleife and it clocked a 7:24.22. Thats .22 off the Gumpert Apollo's time of 7:24.00

Pretty impressive for a car that cost $255,000 less!

So in the end... Bang for the buck? yes! Best out there for the price, Well, I would definitely say so!

Difference though, ZR-1's are often sold at or below sticker; GT-R's all sold out, and all for well over sticker, so the cost of the two cars is probably very close..

Can I pick Cadillac CTS-V for best bang for the buck? Two free doors included, and if that's against the rules, they now have a coupe.

Or if you really want to focus on the buck part more than anything else, Mustangs are super-cheap compared to these premium cars, and the aftermarket is huge. So, not from the ridiculous standpoint that I could take my Beetle and put $100k into it etc.., but from the standpoint of money spent for performance value, I really think Mustangs are best bang for buck.

The AE86 wins everytime in the downhill race. Its just the facts. the gt-r has its weakness, weight and 4 wheel drive. Inital d rules

Exactly, compare what the car actually costs, Corvettes are sold on the cheap these days, 10-15% under MSRP.

I love both Corvetter ZR1 (Z06 aslo) and the Nissan GTR.

I would agree that the GTR is a bang for the buck super car for sure.

The 2012 is now updated with 530hp / 0-60 in 3 seconds and updated steering, better balance and new aero bits so the performance is definitely there.

Lambo Aventador, Murcielago / Ferrari Enzo / Bugatti and Pagani - I consider these Hyper Cars as these are mostly hand built not on a normal production line.

It costs almost $30,000 more though! For less than the $30,000 difference between the two cars, I could put a corvette engine into my miata and upgrade the drivetrain and suspension to support the extra horsepower and it would SMOKE a corvette.

Miata.....damn thats funny....miata sell that car fast.

Lol... these comments never fail to pop up! "if i put ____ engine in my ____ it will smoke a ____ ) Thats just too funny and pretty dumb IMO. Anyways, if i had the chance, id take a Z-R1. I have a thing for American sports cars! :xyxthumbs:
