Is there a tire to taillight startup package deal? I've been watching videos here and I think I like the Pinnacle line or perhaps Meguires if it's as good and significantly less expensive. Basically, I need something for the wheels, paint, and leather and vinyl interior.

I just bought two new cars and would like to start out detailing them the right way. All of my old car care products have been frozen, heated, and refrozen many times. I need new stuff.

Here is a list of what I think I need
1. Wheel cleaner Pinnacle (Advanced Wheel Cleaner Concentrate, and Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Gel New Formula!)
2. Car wash (Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo)
3. Clay and clay juice (Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay PLUS Special)
4. Polish? (Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion), and/or
5. Wax (pinnacle Liquid Souveran Car Wash)
6. Leather / dashboard cleaner and conditioner (Pinnacle Leather Cleaner & Conditioner New Formula)
7. Brushes, mitts, pads, and cloths.

Wow, is there a product to safely remove sticker shock!?
I need to either find an awesome deal, narrow it down to the essentials, or pick a less expensive product line, in that order. :)

Wait for a sale? It shouldn't take too long for there to be a 15% off /free shipping over $150 sale.

You could also try to combine functions. A lot of us clay after washing using car wash solution for lube. There are also some other lines that can be more moderately priced, Optimum comes to mind for some items, and although I haven't inspected the McKee's 37 pricing, it replaces the DP line which was perhaps a notch lower than the Blackfire/Wolfgang/Pinnacle price tier.

Stick to Meguiar's. Great products and better price.

For things like any cleaning you only need one product and that is their APC from the Detailer line, it can be diluted differently for different parts (interior / exterior). Non-acid wheel and tire cleaner from that line can do the wheels and tires together and it works really well.

Thanks for the tips. I want to buy good products, but there are just so many products out there. I'd like to stick to the necessities until I learn all the stuff I don't know that I don't know. Necessities ain't cheap.

x2 on the meguires professional line

I wash a chemical guys fan...i still like their products...but meguires products are better priced and do just as good or better

not to mention you can dilute alot of them, making it last longer

Im slowly switching over as my CG products run out.....

FYI im not a "pro" detailer...im a weekend warrior (i think is the term)

Ok, so are there any products that are absolutely worth the extra price? I.e. Go with Meguires for tires and wheels, wash, and leather interior, but go with Pinnacle, etc, for clay, polish, or wax?

I'll check out the products in the auto geek store when I stop for lunch...

Personally, I find that spending more money on tools gives better results than spending more on chemicals. As others have said, the differences in many products is small. Tools on the other hand can make a big difference. Unfortunately, most of those are personal preference.

You can't go wrong with a set of Wheel Woolies. I really like the Lake Country Wool Wheel Washing Mitt rather than wheel brushes for wheel faces. You'll want some nice microfiber towels for removing wax as well as others not as nice for interiors, door jambs, wheels, etc., and of course one or two drying towels. For wheel wells, you can get a wheel well brush, or if they are low-clearance, use something like a Speed Master brush.

Of course, you'll need buckets grid guards and pads/mitts for washing, but the tools above come to mind as things I use every time.
