I purchased a used vehicle and it has this "staining" only above the windshield. Took some cleaners & degreasers to it with no luck, looks exactly the same. I polished the rest of the truck with great results, but I did not touch this area thinking it might be an issue with the clear coat. Any ideas? Is it safe to try to polish?
Is this on the paint or faded paint/clear?

Looks and sounds to me someone left a rag on those areas with a chemical on it and etching is a factor,really can't tell ,maybe the car was painted and the blend is showing,I would leave it ,or take to a body shop these promblems are not definitive over the net.

Update incase someone finds this thread one day...
I took M205 and a light foam pad to it, and it came right off.
The look of the "stains" reminded me of the look on glass as you are wiping it clean and you get the oily looking, colorful streaks that disappear a second later. Guessing it was some sort of dressing on the paint. Maybe a product like Rain-X from the windshield splattered up there.
