took a break and thought i'd snap a few quick picks. this is my sons 98 explorer. he bought it a few months ago and after savin his pennies we were able to fix some of the mechanical and get it roadworthy. i tried gettin him to let me do some detailing on it but noooo. now that he has it on the road he wants me to do it!. anyhow, this truck was taken care of pretty good mechanically, but as far as detailing, well, i'm not a pro detailer and only do about 15 vehicles a year, but this is the nastiest thing i have had in my shop! theres only gonna be so much i can do with the paint as the clear is failing on the hood and roof, but it'll look better for a few months til he gets the money to bring it back in for body work and repaint. the pics are after a serious wash job and some serious clay work. the front half of the door is after 1 pass with porter cable 7424, orange pad and megs 105. i had the hood and fender done when it dawned on me to snap a few pics.
the interior and under hood are gonna be a job, too. i have the interior tore apart. there was nasty crap all over the place, but i think it's gonna come out pretty nice for what i have to start with. luckily under the hood, there isnt/wasnt any oil leaking from anywhere, so it shouldnt be too bad to clean up. i got my weekend booked with this one tho!!!:buffing:

Very much improved.

You are going to have to teach him to maintain it after your done though...

switched to a rotary, wool pad and m105 for 1st pass, m105, orange pad and pc 7424 for 2nd, m205 orange pad and 7424 for 3rd, the glaze

this ought to keep it a lil protected til we get it in for bodywork and paint.

Nice transformation, especially considering what you had to start with! Hope your son got it dirt cheap, I don't think any amount of bodywork is going to help that frame.

the frame is solid. thats mainly rotted rocker panel in the pics.
