Got a ding which tore through the clear coat. Was wondering if it can be cosmetically touched up to look 90% better without having to repaint the entire door.

Sure, you can use touchup paint on that, if I'm looking at it right. That's on the paint, right? Not on a bodyside molding?
 
75% with touch-up system like Langka

You will get advice to build it up with touch-up paint and sand it flat, compound then polish

Be careful

Sanding on a tight curve like that is tricky. There is typically less clear on areas like that

It's on the belt line of my 2014 M5. It's on the paint and want to repair it soon so that the clear coat doesn't peel off and grow over time.
 
If there are also a few chips on the hood...

And, because it is an M5 and likely your Baby...

I would get an estimate from a professional Touch-up Artist

Yah this is my baby. I have a full clear bra on the entire front. I'm going to talk to a few body shops tomorrow and see what the can do for touch ups.
 
Call your local BMW dealer and ask who they use for touch-UPS

Lots of Dealers do not use their own body shop for touch-up
 
Yes, this is a time to go to a dealer (believe it or not). Where I work, we could practically run a body shop out of our parking lot and the guys we use are amazing. Take it to a body shop and they'll charge you way more than you should have to pay.
 
Went to a few body shops today and several said to get it perfect that you'd have to repaint the door and blend it to adjacent panels - approx $1200-1400. Some of the big body shops won't even offer a small cosmetic job to do touch up and polish just because it's not worth their time and would rather do big insurance jobs or ones costing north of $1k.

I'll try to go to a different dealership. Unfortunately this particular body shop is affiliated to BMW of SF. Just like their service and salespeople, trying to get more of your money. Seeing a brand new M5 and they quickly resort to being money douches.

That sucks because you know they don't send their lot damaged cars to the body shop. They have a guy come to the parking lot and do it cheap.
 
Sorry to hear of the mishap... it's this kind of thing that makes it hard to try to own anything nice.

It's also one of the reasons I like driving a tall truck. The wife drives a car and I am the most paranoid person when it comes to taking her car anywhere and finding a place I approve to park it just to avoid the problem you're going through.
