is WETS worth it?

How does WETS compare to Solution Finish?

Well there's the obvious, that Solution Finish contains a black dye, so it wouldn't be the product to use on anything other than black trim.

I'd probably reach for Solution Finish in instances of badly faded or damaged trim where WETS didn't work as well as hoped.

I myself wouldn't use SF on things like rubber weatherstrip, I don't think it was designed to be used on such, so with that said, I think WETS will at least be the more versatile product.

On Rubber Weatherstrip, with WETS vs Gummi Plege, I myself like WETS better. I'll usually cut a small piece of Foam and dribble a little WETS onto it, then apply to any-all weatherstrip. A little goes a long way.

I'll then typically leave the doors, trunk lid or hood open for a period of time so that WETS has time to dry-cure.

WETS beads really well too. I also use it on the wiper arms.

Dab it on your finger and it feels very much like oil paint.

What I did was treat my wagon's tailgate trim with SF. Let the product set for a day, and then applied WET on top. So far it's been 5 months and the piece still looks great.

You have 2 options, use WETS and wait 3-4 months & reapply. Use a cheaper option and reapply every 2 weeks. Personally I bought a coating, dLux and do my trim every 1.5-2yrs. My time is more important than spending $30-60 on trim treatment. I'll waste $100 on lunch this week.

I just started using it because of all the great thing I've heard.

I need to try it with a regular wax applicator, I've used a microfiber wrapped one and it seemed to soak up a lot of product and not want to release it.

Oh yeah, I made that mistake. Microfiber sucks up way to much product. Foam applicator pad works best for me.

is it better then the blackfire sealant i kinda figured they were about the same?

^^ this. I'm intrigued by Dlux but just haven't gotten around to using it. My car is newish so it really only needs WETS 2-3 times per year. The van was hammered and the plastic graying so I had to restore it and then seal it up repeadily with WETS over the course of the spring but after perhaps the 3rd application it was like the plastic was "full" and had been fully fixed/restored. I've not applied it for several months and it still looks brand news.

Cheap foam brushes from Lowes,Walmart, wherever. They work awesome! Get several sizes and keep them in a Ziplock.

I would avoid the plastic bags as I've had a couple run-in's with applicators stored in seal containers like this begin to smell foul. This includes WETS and some tire dressings.

I personally don't have experience with BF Sealant that compares.

Here are some pics of the van. It's a 2007 with 107k on the ODO.

The plastic around the fog light and beyond was at one time gray and faded. To this day it looks brand new.

The matt black door pillars and the seals at the base of the window drank up WETS for multiple applications. at first they streaked soaking it up unevenly but I kept at it. Again, one time it drank it up and left no streaks, looked beautiful and they have all since stayed that way. Now when applying it, it goes on smooth and even and I do nothing but a soft MF Wipe down of excess.

Nose/Grill

Windshield Cowling. Again, restored this back in Feb/March. WETS here and on the portion hidden under the hood. The wiper arms (metal) were so bad at one time, they were almost white. No longer. Great thing is WETS doesn't sling up on the windshield even during rain

Back bumper - this piece WAS white and barely grey. I remember thinking it wasn't even worth restoring. I restored it / dyed it and then WETS ever since. Looks brand new.

When I say "restore" here's what I used. Wait about a week before applying WETS over top. This stuff works amazingly well. I applied it with some small paint brushes from the arts/crafts area.

Lastly, I have also done the luggage rack up top and the rear wiper which is not metal but very tough plastic. All love WETS.

wow again cant believe you have no paint chips, i have so many its sad, buyer beware

I've touched up the ones we have with Dr. Color chip. Slight hit with with 3000 grit wet sanding by hand and then a nice polish. The blend in pretty well even up close.

As I previously said, WETS sure works great on things other than auto related items.

As another example, see the lovely mint pair of JBL 4430 Studio Monitors sitting in my Living Room? Yep, the "Dolly Parton" Horns got a coat with WETS a few years back. Haven't touched them since.

Perfect factory stock appearance the WETS gave, and the protection is probably of course there some more years to come.

Used WETS again today, but this time I tried the yellow sponge wax applicator. That went much better.

I used a lot less product than I did with the microfiber wrapped one.

Thanks

Yesterday, out came my bottle of WETS to apply on many plastic pieces on my Stihl Weed Trimmer. When I clean up my new Troybuilt Mower soon, I'll probably choose WETS again for many of the Plastic Parts. Lots of great uses for this product

Your pictures always show good looking paint and trim. I would hope to one day see a how-to for the dr color chip and sanding made by you. :xyxthumbs: I only hope that I can keep the same results as you did your car over time.
