It's been too long... 2013 Black Audi Q7, Polished and Coated with Finest

Great work, and thanks for the photo documentation effort (and nice pics) as well.

Holy $#!+, is that a typical thickness (thinness?) reading for the factory Audi paint from what you've seen previously, or has that Q7 been (heavily) compounded before? Just out of curiosity did you take thickness readings post-coating?

^Thanks Chris! This was at the owner's house. I took advantage of the nice, heated work area which is needed to apply CQF in the winter.

Great job. How long did it take for the polishing step?

^To be honest, I'm not too sure... the entire process was somewhere around 14 hours from start to finish.

I found the best way to apply imo is to clean the rim and tire, let it be bone dry then pour the gel into an applicator pad and take from the pad with a small paintbrush and apply to the tire. you conserve alot of dressing this way

^I definitely don't use a lot of product. I have been using the same 32oz. bottle for over a year now and I've got about 1/3 of it left. I use it on the majority of customer cars as well as my own.

^Thanks! I have worked on 2 other audi's before (a S4 and a S6), both of which had more 'average' thicknesses in the low to mid 100 micron range IIRC. This particular vehicle was purchased new and has not been detailed prior to me working on it, so I assume it is just very thin from the factory. This is not too uncommon - my wife's SUV is very thin.

^Thanks! I did not take any more photos of the client's garage... I didn't want to make it seem like I was invading his privacy by posting photos of his living area online.... but yes, his garage is a fantastic setup! He is a true 'car guy' and I hope to get the chance to do some more work for him at some point! Very nice guy, too! He took a real interest in my work and would come out to see what I was doing while I was working, which I liked. I showed him how to do a proper rinseless wash and even ordered some products for him to help him maintain his cars (Iron X, Reload, HydrO2, Grit Guards, etc.)

Hey Gabe - thanks for taking the time to read and comment! I prime the pad with 2-3 sprays of the product, and then I simply add 2 small sprays of product for each section. Approximately equivalent to 2 'pea sized drops' that you would typically use with a non-spray type of polish. Hope that helps... let me know if you've got any other questions!

Was 50mL just enough to apply two coats to this Q7?

Also, how long after the first coat did you have to wait, before applying the 2nd?

^I doubt he is planning on having the RX7 properly polished since it is by no means a show car... he drives the heck out of his 'toys' and frequents track days and autocross events.

^You are correct... 50mL and it was barely enough to do 2 thick coats on the paint and 1 on the wheels. Finest is applied much thicker than other coatings, like 22ple VX1 Pro for instance. A 50mL bottle of 22ple or OC would coat 4-6 average sized cars.

I let each coat of Finest dry for ~90 minutes before leveling with a MF towel. The car was then left to cure for 24 hours and topped with Reload to provide a bit off added protection since the coating will surely cure a bit slower in the cold temps we are having right now.
